This thread is funny. So being the first in the world to accomplish something has no significance, because if someone else had unlimited time and patience, they could probably do it too? How well does this theory apply to, say, anything else in life?
There's a company out there that has a pretty lucrative business dealing exclusively with people who are the first to accomplish something. You may have heard of them.
I'm thirty years old and I have two kids. I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed. Why so mad.
If you were the first because the content was particularly difficult and went unbeaten for a considerable amount of time: yes, it's significant.
If you were the first because you were with a group of people who had time to spam it immediately after the patch was released: not really no.
First to kill AV/PW? ZOMG
First to kill [random VWNM]? Neat.jpg, what's it drop.
I'm sure we all remember it. I do and I didn't care back then. Still don't much care now either. If it "mattered" universally then it would have sustained, but it didn't so there you have it. The fact that you had to ask if we remembered something that died out should have told you something immediately![]()
First black president? woo woo! First black president reelected for a consecutive term? Meh. GG. I R AWESOME for being the first (of 8-16 other people) to beat an MMO boss. No hax I promize. Totally skillzzz and not gearz. BTW I saved the world through my actionz. I don't know shit about Bahamutz but its prolly gayzors.
I didn't say no one cared ever, only that it didn't stick. From that you can infer the majority didn't put much emphasis on it.
Focus was on claiming most of the time. As long as we could kill it no one gave a shit, same way I feel about XIV.
Firsts are cool but i dont think people make that such big deal of it (at least not on my server), congratulate them and people are over it, i personally had more fun trying out different strategy and unconventional party setups, i think Gungnir was the only server out there that tries out fun things like meleeing Ogre, Batraal, Chimera, Coincounter, Moogle etc etc. while the other spams content with BLMs.
8min moogle kill with 6 DRGs is pretty damn fun than the popular 7 WHMs strat.
We were able to MNK burn Chimera, but if you had the melds for BLM, it was simply too strong. At one point we had a sub 3-minute Chimera kill, and it wasn't even with all of our best players -but it was probably the best gear we ever threw at it.
The same would go for Coincounter, especially when you have to change to MNK, and then back to BLM. As far as Darkhold or Moogle, those were obsolete by the time meleeing became viable.
Edit: I do remember being bored at some point and messing around with a /sh group, I was at like 9/10 Kupo Nut Charms and felt OCD, but as you'd expect it didn't go smoothly. We did clear it two or three times, though.
I believe our chimera kill was around 3minutes as well with all melees, since we always meleeburns it for 17min run once we perfected the method, Although dont quote me on the time spent. Melee chimera, this isn't our best time because the members were picked up from various endgame LS, so it wasnt very well coordinated but it did get the job done.
This is melee moogle time before we got our relic, could probably get it down in 6-7minutes with all gae bolgs lol. We tried MNK but it wasnt even close to DRGs parses, could be because we had better DRGs main. Moogles
Fun times! :D ARR can't come fast enough.
