This sounds like the battle cry of the underachiever.
"I could do that too if I wanted, I just didn't feel like it"
And I don't know about you, but in my book, figuring out how to do something first (before everyone copies the cookie-cutter win strats) accounts for something; specifically, ability to problem-solve and devise solutions on your own.
How many of you guys still brag about beating Promyvion before they nerfed it.
I need to kill myself because I agreed with Spider-Dan on something.
You could always just think of it as he agreed with you if that makes you feel better.
Was gonna respond to stuff said but then I realised I don't care enough to continue. This really is a boring argument.
Seriously, this so much. I never understood first kills on WoW, I was in a top guild on my server (granted, it was a shitty one compared on a global scale, but it still applies nonetheless) and everyone was obsessed with first kills. Congratulations, you killed a boss a few hours earlier than us because you were able to play at 7 in the morning on patch day.
To me, first kills only mean something if said boss has been out for a while and no one has been able to beat it.
and changing the subject from endgame to something else, because godforbid, an MMO is not only about endgame, something which I've yet to find in another MMO is this:

I hope SE delivers again in that sense, Vana'Diel was amazing and 1.0 was such a huge disappointment in this area with the copy-pasta'd terrain everywhere
No, I agreed with him as well; 100%, actually. He makes a good point this time, and its the right point to make: XI players fucking cherry-pick the shit out of what does or does not count as skillful when killed "first".
They want to say that it doesn't matter if you're first because anyone, given enough time, could accomplish it. It demeans the players who accomplished it first, and attempts to devalue their accomplishment through being a snide prick. These same people then trump up the fact that "casuals" ruin everything while trumping up their CoP airship fight kills of which they followed someone else's strats on what meds to bring in order to seal what.
Elcura, I see what you're saying, but you do it as well, in your own way. XI's don't matter, though, because nobody is getting paid to be the best; to be first; to be the ones who set the strats that others follow and eventually improve upon. There's skill in being first, and then there's skill in taking a previous approach and refining it down to the point where you can low-man or solo content, like that fucking boss hog who first soloed Patchwerk.
That shit was awesome, and was a sight to behold.
I would like to know what an "XI player" is, because you make it sound like it has some specific conditions to be considered one when everyone who played XI at some point could be an XI player. Is it people who still play XI, people who have only played XI or people who once played XI?
'Splain.
I did say I was bored of this argument generally, but I wanna know what you mean here.
Aha! Dragged you back into the realm of the living, eh? I'll edit this post and explain in a bit; its nothing to complicated but I'm finishing up some paperwork ATM.
I will explain the first bit first, though: by XI player, I mean those who have either only played XI, have adopted XI as their main mindset in terms of what an MMORPG is/should be, or prefer XI's concepts above all others. The reason I use the term "XI player", is because XI was never big enough of a game to impact the genre. By impact, I mean things like nearly influencing e-sports (arenas, ect.) having sponsorships for top guilds, ect. Those are places and concepts wherein not only speed matters, but skill in execution. The first one to win something big gets all the media hype (for what its worth) and gets that bank from their sponsors.
I'll explain more later, and yes, I know that you've played many, many MMOs on the market. I do read your posts.
Looks like the OF showed up.
I smell something.
I bet that guy either never played WoW or got to like level 10 and said "THIS SHIT SUCKS!!11!!"
Now this is a hardcore playyyaaaa
Probably had 10 Relics before anyone else had finished CoP.
ANYHOW...
"('02-COP)" This time range is when WoW was not out correctly? I don't have my facts 100%. But maybe the reason people glorify this time period of XI so much is because WoW wasn't out at the time... Once everyone got a taste of WoW they looked at ToAU and beyond much worse / critically.
If WoW was out, it was right around CoP. If memory serves, Vanilla may have been out before CoP launched, but even I was in full "I HATE WOW CUZ ITS NOT XI!!!" hardcore mode back then, and I'll admit it.
It was 100% pure ignorance on my part, because the first night I tried the trial version of WoW on a Paladin, I was hooked. I think I was camping the Best Buy near my house that very next morning, trying to get in early to get my hands on it. I gotta admit: it was fun going to the midnight launch events and flashing alliances with different cashiers, all of who played WoW. It was either a "FOR THE HORDE!" and some high-fives, or a "FOR THE ALLIANCE!" and some boos and hisses.
