I don't think the WoW love on here is as bad as Fievel makes out. As long as you can put up a good argument for why you don't like it people are happy.
Kytele, you've been gone for a long time... let me just tell you that the XIV section has been a warzone for two straight years. Though there's little left to fight for, some people are still looking for a fight.
Do not engage.
I'm not looking for a fight whatsoever.
Also I never implied I would not be glad to hear this game is generating interest outside of the FF community. I firmly believe the game needs to do that to survive at this point. I wouldn't know I wanted to scroll passed your post if I never read i in the first place >.>
What I did question was your choice of words, nothing else. It was a poor choice of words. If you had a post count of 1 and no one knew you, you woulda been slammed for saying something like that and the vets here all know it. In any case welcome back to BG.
I find people who compare WoW to FFXI/XIV are pretty objective, there are lots of great things about WoW and there are lots of stupid things about WoW. I find that every MMO that releases today is overhyped, lets take GW2 for example, I didn't even need to play the game to know the story of how it failed to deliver. I knew 10 people, all who were pissed off over the direction WoW was going, they bashed WoW endlessly over how bad Dragon Soul was, how stupid panda's were going to be, the whole 9 yards of bashing. When Aug 28th dropped, they all went to GW2, they did the typical "wow this game is great" for about two to three weeks, some even went a little past a month. Mists of Pandaria released, I saw every single one of them on my friends list from playing Diablo 3 in the Jade Forest, every one of them quit GW2, said it had an atrocious endgame, it bored the shit out of them after cap.
I see no difference here when ARR release drops, people are going to at least check it out. By the time ARR drops, Mists of Pandaria should be on or near its final raid content of the expansion where we'll see a giant devoid of content. To me, the real story of ARR isn't going to be the release, it is going to tell me all I need to know 1+ month out after the free trial wears.
The reason so many jump between MMO's is simply because no game has seemed to keep people hooked, even as great as WoW has been over the years, you still have people quitting for months at a time from MMO musical chairs.
Uh, no I wasn't. I am not a confrontational person by nature and I certainly am not gonna get into it with someone who I don't even know. I suggest you go back and read my posts on it. The first ends in "lol" and the second states I mean no insult.
I got this.
Didn't think I would have to fine tune my posts after posting a pretty general statement, but the waters have been tested as it were.
If this opening movie got new people excited about giving ARR a shot, then I'd say it's done one of its jobs. I would be beyond chuffed if the reboot delivers and becomes a hit after word of mouth momentum. Will it happen? Who knows, but I don't think it hurts to be a little optimistic for its success, even though I can't gauge its accurate potential that well at all. But I am really looking forward to the launch regardless. I just got hopes mang.
I have no idea what's going on here but I'm glad it's still around instead of being sanitized.
Further, I now have no idea where I can get my fix on naked mithra cartoons.
I'm sorry but your issue is her choice of words? I'd say if I had come on after a long hiatus I'd debate posting again after hearing your responses.
Just saying that by saying "if it means anything" and "/shrug/" I'm not really getting these vibes you are suggesting. She comes in here being like "wow, even I am getting excited, not that it probably matters to anyone" and you get all aggressive and turn a simple positive statement into an argument.
Anyway... Game seems to be getting decent press, Destructoid keeps updating and I'm surprised their comments are always so positive. Lots of people at my office are signing up for Betadefinitely need fresh blood in this game for it to succeed.
Yeah, I'm taken back by the generally positive responses to ARR articles in the reader comments sections everywhere that reports on it. People are getting pretty hopeful. Obviously cautious, but I think there's a pretty solid consensus out there that things are headed in a very right direction... as opposed the original complete lack of direction.
As i said, I intended no argument. If you feel what I said was aggressive, I can understand your pov, but I assure you that wasn't what I meant. Never meant for it to become a discussion of any kind either.
Anyhow, I'll agree I am also always surprised by the positive press surrounding the game. After the last SE MMO, I guess we're all programmed to just expect the absolute worst news, which often comes in the form of harsh objectivity.
I'd go as far as saying it's not the game itself (or released footage) causing the positive responses, but how Yoshi-P is handling himself, the re-release, and press. Definitely good news that a lot of outlets aren't dooming it from the get-go after 1.0.
Also, Kytele's original statement was pretty straightforward and would take some serious nit-picking to misconstrue.
One of the many reasons I love reading BG forums.
What does Sankaku Complex have to say about ARR? They were all over SEs shit during alpha/beta.
Edit:
NM, found their ARR post.

Surprisingly they have nothing good or bad to say about it.
You mean in a loving manner or a hateful manner? Remember, some people are sexually attracted to shit.
