Burke getting fired wasn't surprising, but the timing was terribad and weird, especially given his involvement in the CBA process. EVERYONE was mega surprised. I saw my Twitter explode and thought the schedule had been posted; was at a business meeting, saw Burke got fired, and silently mouthed "holy shit." The only logical conclusion for the timing is Luongo; MLSE wanted him, Burke didn't, and a decision had to be made before the trade window opened.

As an aside to the Burke firing. Every media person in Toronto is saying how the Leafs would have been dumb for trading Kadri and Gardiner for Luongo. Apparently, the new owners wanted Luongo so badly that they wanted this deal done but Burke said no because it was just so one-sided (Gardiner has upside).

Burke was ok with giving up Bozak and Kadri onry.
