sorry, for IV's you want ATT, spe, spd, def, hp (maxed if possible)

for EV's you want 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

I understand the IV part.
But the EV stuff is what I don't understand.
Is it;
Put 252 individual points in spd/atk meaning that if I did the EV training that gives +12 a game, I'd have to do 21 rounds of the lv3 speed and atk ones? And then only put 4 individual points in HP, which I assume is just what's left over after spd/atk?

Yes, But its 6 Left over, outside of that spot on.

Sweet. Still have my reservations about switching out EVs though because if it doesn't work out how I like, it just means I have to reset it a 2nd time. And as said before- and why I hadn't invested in speed on my prior build- is his pretty abysmal speed.
I'll see how it goes. I suppose.

hmm maybe I could do Garchomp instead.

This is probably your best bet, Though honestly 80 Speed is a bit slow... Most pokemon will outclass it, While on the other he has a decent HP pool which inches me toward a HP/ATK Ev spreed. But with Choice Band the idea is to kill first, and speed is important... Still... pouring it into speed is banking on your opponents fast pokemon are neither IV or EV Trained, or using one of the few derpingly slow Pokemon that are generally found.

If you're uncertain about the Speed route, HP/Attack spread or a HP/S.pdef154 and 252 Attack (if my math is on) would work too... I'm sure others might(?) agree... While Dragonites not the quickest he has good HP/Sp.DEF unless my brain is blending in the Eeveelutions im studying.

no sir.

I was saying if you went down the Speed route like our friend suggested, It would be mostly banking on the idea the opponent isn't properly training, as Dragonites Speed stat is low (80), While its not super low, Most pokemon ran competitively have better speed stats, or perhaps run trick room... which is even more reason to be slow, so EV Training Speed would be banking on your opponent being under-trained or using a Pokemon with 80 or Below speed Stats.

I mentioned with that in mind, It might be better to focus on defensive stats as your secondary EV, with the knowledge you will likely be hit first and want to survive, rather than going in with the hope you attack first. At the same time you have to consider if I had a speed 60 Pokemon (Sylveon) and EV Trained it in speed, If your Dragonite was not speed trained (EV), I could, despite having a lower Speed potential, Out-move you and get the upper hand.

What i'm saying it is really up to your preference here as its going to depend on what pokemon you're fighting, But Attack should be 252, and Your secondary should be Speed or Defenses.
Thats just me though

Also, yeah; I'm going to ignore the speed route. At least on Dragonite. Though now I'm giving more thought to Garchomp, which I probably shouldnt be doing because I should probably be trying to figure out what better stuff I could be running in the other slots.
Running Protean Greninja and Mega Venusaur and they do well enough in Battle Maison and unranked matches (which I usually win 3/5 of), but I can;t help but feel they could be better- which I most undoubtedly believe is true given my inexperience with this.

Either way, enough thinking about Pokemon for tonight.

The numbers are based on the old way you had to EV train (which required keeping a physical tally cause the game didn't tell you.. I think I have a few scraps of paper in my computer desk from EV training in White). Having the system in place through super training makes it so much easier..

On that note, the bulbapedia article is the only place I've seen anyone mention that they reduced the max -- was wondering if I was the only one who noticed it. Was definitely nice to not have to worry about accidentally getting those last 3.

Nice! I've seen a shiny Sylveon - it's blue instead of pink, it's pretty fucking awesome. I intend to get one. Btw do any of your Eevees have Wish bred into them? I'm looking for Wish Eevees now cause if I can't get one, I'll have to breed it myself ugh.

Just finished the game and I really don't give two shits about IVs. I'll do EV training now since it's super easy, but I typically just breed for a good nature and go from there. Don't really play online too much, so bleh.

I don't do online battles either. What I like to do is shiny hunt, and also try to beat the E4 with an army of Eevee evolutions.

I've got my Sylveon already, and I was TRYING for an Umbreon and instead got another Sylveon. (random fail). Al least the 2nd Sylveon has a good nature for Sp. Def and has a perfect Sp. Atk IV. It's attack stat sucks but Sylveon's more powerful moves are Sp. Atk so no loss there.

If anyone wants the first Sylveon (it's Lv. 50 now) I can send it to someone who wants it.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I have this down, but I want to make sure before I start putting time into this...
If I want a Garchomp with Outrage, I'm going to need a lv51 male dratini that knows Outrage and breed it with a female Garchomp(or lesser evolutions). The lv1 offspring gible will then have a chance to know Outrage

so a lot of people aren't to happy with Heracross this gen (no idea why there unhappy as in its under powered) Heracross knows Megahorn and close combat (both 120 power) can learn Earthquake swords dance/bulk up has a lot of pure power and has hidden ability Moxie, its only real concern is flying and fire types so i'm pretty happy with using him as my Ageislash killer
