Pokemon X & Y (3DS)

So the newest Poke I'm trying to build up is a Venusaur and just looking to see if what I'm doing sounds ok (trying to make a tank). Bold (Venusaurite), 252 HP/DEF - 4 SpATT: Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Leech Seed, Sleep Powder. Hoping for a shiny to pop out since I'm also using a Jp Ditto. Also, does using a female with the HA help in transferring the HA over using a male? Took me forever to breed up a female with Chlorophyll and Giga Drain and just wondering if I wasted time since female Bulbasaurs aren't too common.

With a ditto it doesn't matter if male or female for HA. Rate is decently high, like 60% at least, to have an egg get HA. You have to have a female with HA to breed it to eggs without a ditto though. If you can find a JP bulbasaur (or any other language than you're using) you can get eggs faster than with a ditto. Otherwise it's the same.

It's not a different region that gives you eggs at a quicker rate, it's a different Original Trainer that does.

Without oval charm I think the egg rates are around:

Different Species, Same OT: 20% (don't like very much message)
Different Species, Different OT (I.e. one is yours, one is from someone else): ~50%
Same Species, Same OT: ~50%
Same Species, Different OT: ~70-80%

Yeah I didn't mean to imply that. I worded the sentence poorly. I meant with the Female bulbasaur, he could get a JP or other region bulbasuar (for better shiny rate) and because they're the same pokemon with different ID's, eggs would occur more than the Ditto x Bulbasuar.

Ah, ok. I'll troll the GTS tonight to see if I can find a male foreign Bulbasaur. One thing, though... will the HA transfer rate be higher since the female has it? When I was in the midst of breeding I believe I got a 100% HA transfer rate at one point (female had HA, but didn't have Giga Drain). Was that just pure coincidence or does having the female with the HA make it a guaranteed HA transfer?

EDIT: Still wondering about the nature, though. Is Bold the best option or is Calm the way to go?

No, HA are not guaranteed transfers -- I believe it's 60% chance.

Thanks, at least now I know I don't have to aim for a female if I breed with Dittos.

Also...this whole "which nature is best" thing has me stumped with Venusaur. Modest is also sounding like a really good nature since he has high defenses anyways as a Mega. BLAH.

you want it as a tank so pick calm or the normal def + att - one depending on what type of tank you want, also give it sludge wave over bomb if it can learn it (higher damage)

Correct. If both Pokemon have identical speed, it's a 50-50 chance to go first. It's why you'll see Smogon types occasionally just drop 4 Speed EV's on something, specifically to allow them to beat Pokemon who frequently go 0 EV on Speed if it's common for a given tier (like a lot of Pokemon who normally DGAF about going first to begin with).

Priority moves of course will override this, unless both Pokemon have the same priority on their move- in which case it checks the same way.

For those of you who have purchased Pokémon X & Y, the second patch, V 1.2, is now live on the eShop. This patch fixes various exploits that allowed people to read data through data interception. This patch is required to go online and comes in at 236 blocks.
In conjunction with this patch, Rating Battles have been reactivated in the Battle Spot part of the game.

Also... 4 boxes of Bulbasaurs and no shiny yet. I know some people go through 40 boxes before they see shit, but still. This is booooooooooooring. At least by the time it pops out it'll have good IV's. Went with Calm, btw.

Also, forgot where I read it, but apparently any Poke that wasn't created legit in past games won't even be able to be uploaded to the Pokebank. Looks like this is the gen where hacked Pokes die off. Only took them.... 15 years?

It's been posted on here before, but yeah, supposedly any pokemon that wasn't obtained legitimately can't be uploaded to the bank. How they'll check, no one knows yet, but I imagine it most likely has something to do with the hidden ID.

I'm doing horde battles just for the fun of it in Victory Road. Run into a bunch of Geodudes. Background has a big ol' rock in it. I swap out my Venusaur, then I've got my killer bunny with Pickup (yes, Pickup, I'm doing this for fun) in.

I Surf the lot of them. The rock in the background shatters in two from the impact, and "You found a Damp Rock in the aftermath!".

Do another horde battle in the same spot. More Geodudes, no rock in the background.

So apparently in some horde battles, there's breakable scenery one can destroy for loot? Pleasant new surprise.

So I've been reading this thread for a while because I've always loved pokemon games so wanting this one was no exception. I won't be getting it for a while due to being poor~ But! I read that there was a difference in storylines between Pokemon X and Pokemon Y (One being Darker, and the other being Lighter to compliment the new Fairy Type).

Has anyone paid attention to the story, and if so which one would you suggest?

I think the Light and Dark differences are just the difference in the bad guy's goals and what the legendary Pokémon are known for. The differences aren't huge though. And of course, there are Pokémon that are exclusive to each game as usual, but it is probably easy to just throw one of your game's exclusives into the GTS for an exclusive in the other.

I only played Y, but this is the "darker" story of the two. I'd probably just get the game that has the legendary you want/like the most.
