Makes sense since it would be really easy to clone pokemon that way.

Trying to make a competitive team. Going to a tournament in a few weeks (double battles, take 6 use 4) My idea is basically a 2 prong attack. Take a mega kangaskhan and mega gengar. if its a good team to go toxic spikes go gengar, if not then go kangaskhan. Doing this will also prevent them from picking stuff to just hard counter my mega. Anyway My current team is:

    Set1:
    Kangaskhan (mega)

    Set 2:
    Gengar (mega)
    Tenticrewl (toxic spikes)

    Set 3:
    Aegislash (just a beast)

Set 3 are pokemon i will use regardless if i go mega gengar or mega kangaskhan. What is a good pokemon for set 3 and a good one to pair with kangahas?

also trying to make a build around mega mawile if anyone already has a good one XD

I've been toying with Scolipede baton passing for my Mawile, but it's so easily countered I don't know if it's worth it anymore. I've been leading with Light Shield/Reflect Latias, Scolipede and Toxic Spike then Dance until I'm in danger. Baton pass to Mawile and sweep sweep sweep. If shit hits the fan, Latias can Healing Wish one of your sweepers back into the game. Scolipede himself is a good sweeper alongside the Baton support. You could consider those 2 for set 3 I suppose?

I haven't found a better Toxic Spike user than Scolipede simply for the ability to pass off Attack and Speed buffs for every turn he's out, not to mention Megahorn is a beast. Then again there's so much conflicting information and setups it's hard to settle on just one. I'm a fan of Deoxys as well, with his ability to Stealth Rock and Spikes, you can cut a pokemon in half just on entry. He isn't much in the way of anything else though, so it could be seen as a wasted slot. Another contender for Slot 3 I guess, or a replacement for Tentacruel. I just don't consider Toxic Spikes to be useful unless you have one hell of a wall to sit there and tank while they're dying from Poison.

Mawile setups themselves, I'm a fan of Pain Split, Protect, Substitute, and Rough Play build. If you can actually get ahead of the other Pokemon with Mawile's rubbish speed, you can use it for a bulky sweeper and take advantage of Toxic Spikes, tanking, and damage all in one go. Mawile has enough potential with Intimidate->Huge Power to be amazing, but the fact that if you get paired against anything with Earthquake and a decent SpAtk/Spd rating, you're instantly fucked, is disturbing. Another reason I like my Baton Passing Scolipedes. Speed Boost goes into effect every turn. It's just needing something to keep that Scolipede in play, as he's easily killed/removed, and Roar will instantly ruin any setup you try to run with Baton Passing. As for keeping it in play, the Latias helps. You could run a Lugia instead of Latias and add the status block move in(forgot name lol)and replace Draco Meteor with that. I'm not sure if he has access to Healing Wish, though.

Another to consider is Salamence, I like having him as the Yang to my Mawile's Yin. For the anti-Mawile builds, send out Salamence and just Outrage. I've wiped out teams just doing that as long as it has Moxie. Just take something to counter the confusion at the end of it, or let him be a sweeper intended to die and give it a Life Orb.

Forgive me if I don't seem to know what I'm on about, I'm still getting into the competitive end of this. :<

Don't want to come off as rude, but that kind of strategy isn't going to work in VGC ruleset. I don't play VGC but I do know that hazards besides Web are not going to do you much good. Baton Passing isn't necessarily a great way to go either.

Go look at Nugget Bridge for VGC tips. There's a lot of tournament reports you can get meta game insight from.

I'd also play VGC on Showdown's ladder a bit, or whatever site the NB folks use (I think they are on Pokemon Online).

Honestly, outside of post game Battle Maison superhappyfuntime from Gen3/4, I'd say that Gen6 is the best since Gen1. So easy to train and breed for 100% legit pokes. Shiny chances way up if you care. Legendaries guaranteed 3 perfect IVs minimum.

Enjoy it. Also, enjoy learning types and move sets of almost 560 new pokes, lol... And Abilities... So many changes.

Oh, for anyone that cares, this is my current OU squad I'm working on and constantly making adjustments to:

    FLUFFY (Kyurem-Black) @ Choice Scarf
    Ability: Teravolt
    Shiny: Yes
EVs: 104 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spd (out speeds positive nature base 130s)
    Naughty Nature
    - Fusion Bolt
    - Outrage
    - Rock Slide
    - Ice Beam

    CRASH (Azumarill) @ Leftovers
    Ability: Huge Power
    Shiny: Yes
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
    Adamant Nature
    - Aqua Jet
    - Waterfall
    - Knock Off
    - Play Rough

    TUSKS (Mamoswine) @ Focus Sash
    Ability: Oblivious
    Shiny: Yes
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature
    - Stealth Rock
    - Ice Shard
    - Icicle Crash
    - Earthquake

    PUPPY (Espeon) @ Light Clay
    Ability: Magic Bounce
    Shiny: Yes
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature
    - Reflect
    - Light Screen
    - Psychic
    - Yawn

    SHOCK (Manectric) @ Manectite
    Ability: Lightningrod
    Shiny: Yes
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature
    - Volt Switch
    - Overheat
    - Thunderbolt
    - Thunder Wave

    GOOEY (Goodra) @ Assault Vest
    Ability: Gooey
    Shiny: Yes
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SAtk
    Mild Nature
    - Flamethrower
    - Draco Meteor
    - Sludge Bomb
    - Dragon Tail

This team is built to force opposing teams into a bad situation with Bounce threatening all the time, Yawn forcing switches or making you basically lose a Poke to Sleep, and pivot pivot pivot. Azu's an excellent Knock Off user, as it often forces a switch, and out goes something's item. Kyu-B is easily Ubers power but in OU due to its movepool... Give it a Scarf, and it'll tear shit up.

I only really see myself having a problem dealing with Stall teams, and I'll switch Kyu-B to Band if it pops up and that'll take care of that problem.

I might switch Rock Slide on Kyub for Draco Meteor. Not sure yet. Rock Slide saved my ass earlier today with a flinch.

I played Red/Blue, then HeartGold/SoulSilver, and now X/Y. It really does feel overwhelming how many new Pokemon there are, but the new mechanics from each gen to each gen seems to get explained and implemented well enough. I just got my Mega Evolved Blastoise last night, fuck yeah.

So I'm looking and planning, I think I'm going to take the water starter, and then pick Charizard from the gen 1 starters. Unless that's an absolutely terrible idea.

I did the same but you will have some overlap with Torchic/Blaziken, assuming you use him.

It's absolutely 100% the best idea for in-game and arguably competitive anyway. Greninja is decent even without Protean for in-game purposes (go Special) and both versions of Mega Char are fucking monstrous. Y tears things down like they're nothing, and X is excellent at multiple things.

The only thing that could possibly change anything is Mega Venu for stall teams or as a special wall/annoyance, but that kind of play style is annoying for in-game so I'd definitely go the way you're planning.

I would, however, fetch a random Protean Froakie/dier/ninja from GTS/wonder trade though to replace your initial, but that would easy mode the game even more than it already is. Might be easy, but this is truly the best gen since gen1.

Did you know you can get a 100% crit rate pretty easily now? Yeah, it's a thing. Crit Stage 1 (base) is 6.25%, 2 is 12.5%, 3 is 50%, 4 is 100%. Crits do 50% extra damage now, a Poke with Sniper does an extra 125% damage. All it takes is a Focus Energy and crit hit increase moves, or Focus Energy and a crit rate up held item, and you're rocking 100% crits. Just a small example of fun things from Gen6.

Going on the crit rates a bit more, sometimes I decide to run a Shell Smash Barbaracle randomly with a crit rate held item, Sniper. 50% crit rate on crit hit moves. It OHKOs the whole OU meta if a crit lands with the correctly chosen move and puts a massive dent in everything otherwise. Only thing that can take it down really is a Mach Punch.

Baton Passing a Focus Energy to either Barby or even Sniper DRAPION of all things is an option too. You could run a Band Drapion and with crit hit moves+Energy, you're wrecking the whole meta all over again. Baton Pass is just kind of unreliable, but still, example remains.

    Ah, nvm then.

Focus energy and a crit+ item (razor claw?) alone give you 100% crit?

Yep, that's stage4. That's how the Critdra build works usually. Sniper with Focus Energy and a crit item. It's a tad on the slow side though, and that's why it doesn't really get any usage.

I've looked at all the Sniper 'mons quite a bit and Barby/Drapion are pretty much the best users of it. Octillery is meh, and Fearow's move options don't really offer all that much coverage (plus it doesn't get Focus anyway and would require a Baton Pass).

This is how rough that Barby can be to deal with:

    +2 252 Atk Sniper Barbaracle Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Skarmory on a critical hit: 366-432 (109.5 - 129.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

That's basically a 40% chance of happening. And if it doesn't happen, it's a freaking 2HKO anyway. All Mega Venu variants are OHKO'd with crit. It is seriously incredibly rough to deal with. It's basically SwagPlay in terms of dice rolling really hard.

You'll have to fetch one off the GTS or use PokeBank/Transfer. Gen2-5 starters are not natively in the game.
