Fucking Abra...
Wandering the grass on Route 5 for about 2 hours I've only seen 2 and they both Teleported before I could catch them. I only have 1 badge and I'm already mid-20's just from trying to find a fucking Abra.
Is there any decent mons I should be looking out for? I'd assume there is nothing so far, as I've caught just about everything I've come across, but I haven't played these games since Yellow. I'm playing Y.
So far my lineup is (22-27): Ivysaur, Frogadier, Combusken, Pikachu, Fletchinder, Vivillion (Polar). I can also confirm any Vivillion I get in NYC is Polar. If anyone wants a Polar let me know and I'll trade you a Scatterbug.
So I've been playing random battles against a bunch of people, and holy shit are most of the mega evolutions broken. I wasn't really paying too much attention to them till I got bodied by a few and looked up their base stats.
The usual suspects, like Blaziken and Charizard are obviously good, but a lot of the less used pokemon are ridiculous too. Mawile's ability doubles its base 105 attack. It hit my Cloyster with a neutral Iron Head (which is like 80 base power and a physical move; Cloyster has 180 base defense) and one-shotted it, lol. Lost to someone using a mega Banette earlier too.
Edit: Also, adding people who posted their FCs in the last few pages
Honedge is a boss, prolly one of my favorite new mon. You can get one pretty easily running around in the tall grass in Route 6. It's pretty slow, but has a huge amount of resistances, 3 immunities, hits like a truck and starts w/ Swords Dance. You can also catch a Magikarp w/ an Old Rod on Route 3 if you want, EXP Share makes leveling it really easy and Gyarados tears through most of what the game throws at you.Is there any decent mons I should be looking out for?
Been trying to thief the light ball from pikachus in route 3, now because of the "hidden desire meter" lol, i barely find pikachus, very annoying tbh. I have thief on a random lvl 8, but can my greninja still steal w/ a one-shot? Also is it confirmed that a light ball can be stolen from a pikachu?
I'm going to help you out.
Catch a Scatterbug, see if it has Compound Eyes.
Alternatively: Catch a caterpie, evolve it all the way to a Butterfree (it will have Compound Eyes) plus I use this punk to Sleep Powder/Stun Spore MOST pokemon in the game. Boost that sucka's speed stat. He's partner for life.
Put them at the front of your party. You just increased PKMN hold items to 50% (Light Ball in previous games was 5%). Good job. Now switch to a pokemon with Thief or just capture the pkmn in question. Later on you can switch to a pokemon with Frisk if you don't feel like using the Thief strategy. W/E you want.
Now for your question: Using this method, I Thief'd a Light Ball on my 8th pikachu.
Edit: I also used this method to get that cubone item.
Edit2: Well I use this method for p. much anything that has only a 5% chance of holding shit.
Edit3:
Special attack AND attack.
Did someone already mention that Pikachu got a buff in this game? His base stats.
Honedge's final evolution built right is a mother-effer. I thought I was going to snap my 3DS when I went vs with a friend who had one.
Somewhere in that Paris-town (sorry I still haven't learned the names yet) is a building on the outer ring that you can access even during the blackout where there will be two guys who will recommend you the "Quick Ball" and "Timer Ball" and give you like 4-5 of each (I forget). Use the Quick Ball immediately on the Abra. Boom. Worked 5/5 for me so far. I don't even bother teaching mons moves to freeze them.
Mina the all-knowing. The Compound Eyes/Thief combo and the Quick Balls will be life savers. Thanks.
Oh shit. I should mention something right now.
Do not waste your Master Ball on the box legendary. It's a mandatory capture and required for the story. If you faint it, it will make you fight it again. I caught it with a normal pokeball 100% health.
Reading sob stories about people who threw their master ball so they wouldn't "waste it" then realizing afterwards it was required to advance is sad.
Yep. Unfortunately Pikachus have a low % to spawn without a Static to pull them but the odds are way better if you can guarantee the ones you see will have a coin flip chance of holding the light ball.
Anyways, going to go through this thread in reverse and read what ya'll have been talking about without me. :3
Yes. After you beat the game.
Spoiler: show
Hey everyone!
My Friend Code is 1263-6702-6167. I'll add everyones once I get my 3DS in hand =]

The pokemon forest has Dittos.
sweet. Ratatapa's got a charmeleon in his.
I had to redo the last 4 battles because I reset my game after killing it immediately lol. Second time I caught it with ultra balls. I haven't played the last 3 generations, butit was the easiest legendary I've ever caught, and it being required catching, I suppose that would be why.
I know of that. The safari though is guaranteed to have 2 perfect IVs. Plus I'm wanting to hunt shiny Dittos for the next 10 years of my life. Having someone with a Ditto farm cuts down all the garbage. I'm struggling with poke radar. Chain keeps breaking and I'm following the rules I remember from DP. :/ Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Highest I've gotten the chain up to is 6.
My type coverage is horrible. I don't know why but I always end up with majority weakness to fighting, dark, ground, and fire. I just best the fourth gym, does can anyone recommend a couple mon's to swap out?
My lv32-36 team is...
Delphox
Kabarba
Aeeodactyl
Tyrunt
Heracross
Dualblade
I've redundant typing between Tyrunt and Dactyl; Delphox and Kadabra. Been trying for a Clauncher and maybe a Mareep or Axew. It's been difficult choosing the new mons when we dont have complete movelists. Meh.
Keep Delphox. Delphox will steamroll most of your gyms. I think 4-5 gyms were won by this badass alone. Dualblade will be a strong mon if you build it right. Make sure you take someone's earlier advice and get Swords Dance. He's tanky as fuck and he can dish out some serious damage.
My winning team was:
Delphox
Blastoise
X(legendary-whatever its name was) <--- super handy to have when heading towards the Elite Four.
Lucario <--- I messed up his build and he was not helpful at all towards the end.
<<Random Pokemon based on area>>
Linoone (HM Slave/Pick Up/Thief) <--- got carried. I didn't even swap for the elite four because I was so confident I was going to nuke that place.
Speed for the Butterfree is so that way I can make sure I always act first with a Stun Spore or Sleep Powder. Also if I don't see the right poke, I can "run away". Basically I build a complete support Butterfree for catching purposes. If that fucker could learn False Swipe, I'd be the most pleased person ever.
There is a better pokemon for this job but I've yet to start working on it. Hi Smeargle.
