My dog got a burn like that from the vet's office. She went in for some surgery, they left a heating pad on her too long while she was drugged unconscious, and it burned a huge spot on her side. it's been like 8 years and she still has a huge bald patch where it happened, though its been getting smaller. The whole area that got burned just died and sloughed off, fur and all. I changed the bandage one day and this huge chunk of dead flesh came off with it. It also damaged her internal organs. She got all jaundiced, so we almost lost her to that, too. It took her a LONG time to heal, and was very expensive/time consuming. Luckily, I was feeling shitty myself, so was always around to change bandages and watch her and whatnot, and since it was completely the vet's fault, they paid for every bit of it.

Burns of that sort are awful.

Yeah, not so much honor; courts are just a pain in the ass, even if the payout is good. So much legal wrangling, PR speak, lying lawyers, delays and postponements..... its just a mess.

I dunno, I stayed home cos I was sick. We picked her up, settled her in, and the next day we noticed this discolored raised area on her side, as well as yellow skin. My mom took her in again because of the yellow skin. I don't think they really understood all the damage they'd done, because the clerk tried to charge my mom for the return visit and medical supplies. My mom was furious, not having any of that shit. They eventually figured it out and were very apologetic, and let us take more batches of supplies over the following months of recovery.

Not to be "that guy", but isn't that something you sue over? <.< Vets have malpractice insurance, too, and it's for major fuck ups just like that.

As has been mentioned, lawsuits are fucking expensive/time consuming. Since our dog survived and, aside from the bald patch, has suffered no lingering effects (and they were paying for the supplies needed to help her heal), we decided not to. Especially since it was the only vet within 20 miles. Not a good bridge to burn, tbh.

Sounds like the vet provided the emergency care required, as well as the goods necessary to care for the dog after it was home again. There is the work involved with changing the bandages and such once home, but is that really worth suing someone over?

I really don't see why he would want to sue. Sure, they fucked up. People fuck up all the time. No one died, and neither did the pet. Shit happens; not every fuck-up needs to be accompanied by dollar signs.

    edit: beaten-ish

Sure they do. The vet is certainly paying for it in insurance costs. Maybe at one point in time every fuck-up didn't need to be accompanied by dollar signs, but this is the way the system works now. What the vets did for him and his dog were the absolute least they could have done. If they don't have free service for the life of that animal then fucking LOL. The only legit reason not to sue is was that they are they only vet in 20 miles, lol.

You sue when the responsible party is not taking responsibility.

Sounds like he was perfectly happy with the vet taking care of the dog and all associated costs, so why sue?

I would be fine with it if they just paid for all the recovery items needed. If they charged me for shit, then I would lose it. Probably guilt em into throwing in a lifetime of free teeth cleaning or some other type of service. Although, if they fucked up with that thing, I wouldn't trust em too much to put my dog under to get it's teeth cleaned.

Our first vet killed our first dog by prescribing the wrong doggy-medicine. Killed her kidneys and we watched her waste away until she seemed miserable enough that my mom let her be euthanized.

The vet committed suicide a few years later. KARMA'S A BITCH!
