Those numbers seem off. Seems like violent crimes committed with a gun would be crazy high in America. There were 8 in my hometown just last night.

My best guess is that not all law enforcement agencies report their statistics in any way that they can be included in national census reports reliably. The town I grew up in doesn't even have a digital database for logging incidents. It's good ole' "type it, print it, file it" incident reporting.

The problem is, that in areas with increased gun control, general violence tends to be higher, rather than lower. Where there are more guns, there is less violence. Where there are less guns, there is less violence. It's not a causation, but it is a very strong correlation.

The areas with increased gun control and increased violence, also tend to be major urban areas/cities, which also tend to have increased violence and crime regardless of the gun policies.

The states with the highest amount of gun homicide per capita are, generally, most of the red states that are far more conservative and lax with their gun laws, and have a far higher concentration of guns per capita. As opposed to the bottom of the list, that are mostly blue states, with less guns.

Graphing various countries by relationship of guns per capita vs gun death per capita, shows that the data actually seems to strongly trend in the opposite direction of the 'more guns = less violence' claim.
