It really was a bad playcall. If you go for it, and miss, it's not that much of a loss vs. the punt, about 30 yards. A more-than-50%-chance at keeping possession of the ball is worth a lot more than that given how well the Broncos drove last time, and generally have been driving this year. Punting in opposition territory on 4th and short, with a RB like Rice, is trying to not lose, not trying to win.

30 yards doesn't really qualify as "not that much."

But yes they should have went for it.

that's a stretch. I would just call it being conservative, and while I would have gone for it, Manning hasn't been shredding them

DEN didn't score. BAL has the ball and is not losing. It wasn't a bad call you guys are trying too hard today. It would have been acceptable to go for it though but punting wasn't a bad call.
