I'm just curious if this queue is even working, I was #14 with 30 mins but it never moved at all.
Playing on x360 so far its super laggy enemies hit 0 HP and don't die and keep shooting for a few seconds... but at least its playable.
Finally got in, having quite a bit of fun.
feels like it is an f2p game that should have been released a few years ago
Feels very borderlands mmo to me that needs better servers. Overall fun impression hopefully launch has a few more bugs worked out.
Been playing PS3 beta since it started, from what i've seen its amazing overall. The console beta build we are using is very old, I think a dev said it was submitted 3 months ago and I can tell from the PC version which is much more recent that there are missing crates, shops have been changed, health bar has been changed and a lot of small other details. It was very buggy but still playable and the PS3 version suffered serious sound issues, servers have been smooth for PS3 since the beginning unlike Xbox and PC though it looks like they fixed that. Hopefully those are all fixed at release. Besides that framerate is pretty good and can remain stable on massive player events, graphics are overall appealing and nice for a console game, if you hate bad textures this game is suicide for you. The entire world map and all those black areas will be explorable in the full release, beta was only like 15% of the world, its HUGE.
The game is absolutely fun. There are a ton of guns and they are all handcrafted so no random stats like borderlands. The guns as far as I can tell are extremely balanced so everything is usable. I really love how the "level" system in this game is used for unlocks to expand progression rather than giving you stats like a normal MMO and dictating that x player is higher level than x so he will always win. There are also no classes or limitations in this game, you are absolutely free to customize your character to how you want to play. You can also mod weapons with up to 4 attachments, depending on the weapon though you are limited with the number of mods you can have attached initially but you can eventually give 4 attachments to any weapon. Mods can be taken off a weapon and replaced with something else if you wish, mods also change the visual appearance of weapons, barrels are a great example. EGO powers are extremely flexible to any playstyle honestly, there are only at the moment 4 and you can obtain all of them but only have one equipped at a time. There are also a buttload of perks which you can level and equip. Here's a calculator http://defiance-central.com/ego-calculator/. The max EGO(level) will be 5000 so you can probably max everything eventually (Again you will still have a limit on the number of perk you can equip).
The early storyline quest and sidequest were fairly enjoyable but pretty generic for MMO standards, content scales based on the number of players and players who you are not even grouping with can participate with you. All of the early content is VERY accessible to anyone. There are Coop instances you can queue up for that are designed for 4 players. There are also several PvP maps/modes you can queue up for, like 8v8 team death match and 16v16 conquest. There is also the insane Shadow world which takes place in the open world map and its 32v32.
There is no subscription fee for this game, rather Trion will be making money through DLC and Cash shop. DLC will include stuff like new races, weapons, storyline content, costumes, etc. They have said they will make sure not to separate the player base through DLC, there will also be free DLC along with patches like a normal MMO. The cash shop IS NOT pay2win. Its pure cosmetic like costumes and boosters. Costumes and hats give no boost and are for looks only, your shield/perks determines your survivability.
So far Trion Worlds has been extremely supportive, example when microsoft only gave them two days of beta and the players cried about it they went and talked and got a extra day then expanded it to 5. The mods and community managers have been very helpful and answering question on the forums and they have been holding streams to showcase the game and answer questions. http://www.twitch.tv/trionworlds, their videos are archived. Overall the game looks fantastic and promising. I believe Rift was alright at launch and then they added serious meat to the game overtime, it still surprises me that they have managed to hold on the subscription fee for that game despite being a "WoWclone".
I'll admit the day 1 lag was really off-putting on the xbox but all of my major gripes were fixed that same night. Played it for hours the next day and the only thing that keeps me from playing now is that i don't want to ruin the experience when i get to play my character for keeps. I like how you can reset perks for a modest price (in game currency) as i originally thought i wanted to have cloak and snipe but decided later to go decoy. The ego level is kind of weird wish it went up at a more traditional rate i dunno if its been boosted exp for beta or if it will be normal to jump by 5-10 levels in launch. Leveling up the weapons and cars provides a modest boost to their performance and is coming naturally at the moment but i don't know if it'd be tedious to cap another after you've been playing with certain types all game. Overall i enjoy it enough to buy another f2p mmo that even if i don't keep until exp(dlc) comes out i won't regret playing as i've already talked many of my fps friends into playing that don't traditionally enjoy mmorpgs. So its kinda a best of both worlds game for me.
first 15 min
for those that played the game really cool tie in at the beginning, if you notice it
HD version on sci fi
Also not sure if there should be a separate thread for the TV show
Welp pre-ordered for me and my gf, got it for 46$ each which isn't as bad. I'm excited and can't wait.

Well servers went live really early, playing it now.
Cannot dl from steam yet, kinda sucks, I guess ill install from Trion account, silly me
wtf is with my avatar as well
Contemplating picking this up. I assume some of you guys are playing it! Impressions? Are there dungeons/instances to do? What kind of group activities are there? Frustrating bugs that are getting in the way of gameplay, etc?
For the most part it's pretty fun. I have 2 instances unlocked but I think there are 7. I'm playing on Xbox to play with friends that don't play pc games and its had its problems but for the most part it's playable. Only thing that's bothered me is the lack of progression for weapons. I'm nearing 500 ego level and the damage hasn't really changed. I've duo'd most of the game except a few story missions that are solo only.
Overall it's a pretty enjoyable third person shooter where you'll occasionally do an unorganized event with lots of people.
The instances are pretty fun 4 person groups and has a "dungeon finder" to match you up and teleport you to them. If you're looking for a wow/ffxi mmo where the combat is tps I don't think you'll enjoy it.
Possibly if they add gear progression later.
So is it worth picking up or no? I'm pretty interested in it. Reviews are decent but not great.
Is this F2P on Steam? I am kind of confused on the model here.
