Worst FF main villain

Of those listed, Vayne is the only good villain. Shadow Lord/Sin(YuYevon?) were ok. The rest are terrible in their own ways. It was difficult to choose because I find nihilism to be lazy, but I voted Kefka because he is nihilistic and extremely overrated. I'd venture even more so than Sephiroth.

I'm confused at why Barthandelus is getting so many votes. He was awesome. He had the whole party in his grasp for the entirety of the game and he's one of the very few FF villains that felt legitimaley dangerous. Awesome boss battles and music as well.

On the other hand I'm pleased that Vayne isn't getting many votes. He's by far the best written antagonist in the series and the only one who isn't an omicidal maniac for the hell of it. He's half of the reason FFXII's plot is a step above your generic FF's plot.

I'm going with Sephiroth with this one. His homoerotic obsession with Cloud, ridiculous backstory (read books for a week = insane), motivations (my mom is an alien so I must kill everyone, never mind that my actual mom is a human called Lucrecia because nobody is ever going to tell me that!) and the fact they deliberately keep him alive so that they can make another subpar FFVII spinoff whenever they want make him the worst, yet most overrated, FF villain ever.

Let me preface this by saying I don't like Sephiroth at all, but why does everyone keep calling him overrated? Every time someone mentions him there's always a bunch of people claiming he's overrated, yet rarely anyone claiming he's da best omg kawaii desu. Seems like he's rated pretty correctly by everyone except those who created FF7 and its spinoffs. And things like:

Granted, all anyone can offer is anecdotal evidence, but in all my time in XI (where the propensity for Final Fantasy names would likely be highest?) I don't think I've seen more than 3 people with some variant on Sephiroth as their name.

Voted Sephiroth, his reasons for wanting to destroy the planet are ridiculous to me. He just didn't seem like a good bad guy, I really wish we got to fight him once during the game and get our arse handed to us. Just to give us some drive to carry on hating this guy, for me you are just wandering around not really sure what we are aiming for at the beginning of the game. Not to mention he accomplishes nothing apart from killing Aeris (I didn't like her so was a meh moment)

Kuja for me is the best villain, he is mysterious, narcissistic, has great dialogue, an awesome secret hideout, destroys a planet and he seems very real because he just cannot deal with his own mortality something lots of people can relate to.

Caius isn't considered a FF villain then? I actually think he's one of the better villains of the series despite being held back somewhat by some of the other aspects of the story and an obvious low budget for the game, not even mentioning the fact that he actually won out in the end (although it was kind of impossible for him to lose).

Voted for Sephiroth for the reasons above pretty much, he's kind of one-dimensional from what I can remember. Same as above again, I think Kuja is my favourite villain. The guy had some pretty solid reasons for being a douche, and managed to do it all in a stylish (sans the thong) way.

Edit: Also Barthandelus sucked as a villain, shame Caius couldn't have been used in XIII, probably would've made the whole thing a bit more interesting.

Care to explain why?
Other than his obvious "Look at me! I'm the bad guy!" design which is something most FF villains are fond of, I don't see anything particularly wrong with him.
Gets things done? Check. Feels threatening whenever he's on screen? Check. Awesome voice acting, dialogue, boss battles and music? Check.

Most of those who say he's not a good antagonist sooner or later play the "He's an old wrinkled guy instead of a pretty bishie so he sucks" card but since you voted for Sephiroth as the worst villain surely you'll have a better argument than that, right?

Yeah, FFX's bad guy was Yu Yevon, although "bad" is a weird word to be using for him, since he was doing what he thought was best then wound up turning into a mindless creature that did nothing but constantly raise a new Sin from final aeons. It's kind of hard to call him a villain when he has no concept of right or wrong anymore, lol

i voted for Kuja his weird flamboyancy which made him nonthreatening and weird could be a woman til someone actually says HE which makes me wonder if SE have weird sub fantasies in these games (looking at you Naruto's Haku)

FF bosses are all over the top in one way or another (insanity or just nonthreatening)

Yeah, "main villain" and "last boss" aren't necessarily the same, and it's tough when there are multiple candidates like in X. I always felt I hated Seymour the most, fuck that guy.

Anyway, I voted for two:

Kuja. That fucker is a whiny bitch from the outset. His daddy issues with Garland are completely uninteresting, his androgynous design is terrible, and the whole "dance for me, canary" schtick falls flat. There's no humor or levity whatsoever with him. And when his plans fail, he swings from "I'mma kill everything" to "welp, you beat Necron, I'll save you I guess." Makes no sense.

Ultimecia. The motive of becoming all-powerful and ruling the universe or whatever is tired enough, but I just don't understand the extra step of denying any life or time to exist at all. Time compression is stupid, period. What, she's just gonna chill in her castle full of monsters by herself for eternity? Sounds awesome. Also, time compression is ineffective on Squall and company because they're such good friends? Are you fucking kidding me? Also negative points for changing from a fine ass bitch into this:

Also, it's a good thing this is just for the main series, because Caius was so bad I would start infracting people for voting for anyone else. He's like the worst parts of Ultimecia and Sephiroth rolled into one.

Why is everyone voting for Barthandelus? All his boss fights were fun and his voice acting was God tier. I can understand not liking XIII as a whole, but don't pin that shit on Bart.

For me it was a tie between FFIV and FFVIII. I just remember both of those games spending 90% of the time struggling against 1 main bad guy, only to have it flipped at the end.

I fkn loved Barthandalus because he was such a fucking dick of a boss. Dude comes out of nowhere to fight you when you're totally not ready for him and would probably rape you the first time you fight him. If you don't have the moves to counter his shit, it was nothing but an uphill battle.

I will agree as far as the story is concerned, he was weak, but his overall douchey-ness made me like him (I am a huge fan of douchey-ness if it hasn't been obvious at this point.)

I wanna vote Ultimecia personally. She was stupid.

Fully agree I loved ff9 but when I saw the final boss I went like what the fuck are you and the most important. Who are you never heard of you in the full game!!,
