I keep bringing up science because many (read: not all) religious individuals consider those who understand or listen to science as following another religion inferior to their own. Many of said individuals self-identify as atheists.

So where are those murders in the name of Origin of Species? The "Bible" of evolution? We see plenty of "God" or "The Devil" made me do it. I want to see some "Carl Sagan made me do it" or "Nietzsche made me do it" in response.

So the fact you want to ignore the poor grades just means you don't have a defense. Murders do happen because kids failed science units on evolution.

I don't disagree, that doesn't counter what I've said or helped what ronin said at all. He can't even counter the poor grades issue. And he is trivializing something that is very real, and very sad. (kids getting hurt over poor grades)

Just to mention, I am way more pissed how he's making light of kids getting abused over science rather than the religion thing. The religion thing is just beating a dead horse when it comes to bg, but making fun of kids getting beaten for something that does happen sickens me.

I've already addressed how murders being done because a kid failed science is not a parallel to it being done in the name of religion. Just because Ronin didn't personally respond to it doesn't make your argument any less invalid.

You're saying they do get beaten over science? I don't get it, I thought you were just posting that psychopaths will use any trigger to cause harm, and the after the fact rationalization (religion, science, anti-skub) was irrelevant to the magnitude of the crime.

Let me try and summarize since you both misunderstand since there are several points being made:

1. ronin claimed that kids are never beaten/killed because a kid didn't memorize something science-related (ie. periodic table)

I am saying, that kids are beaten/killed because a kid didn't memorize something science related (the grade mentioning, is because news articles don't specify which class the kid was failing, but if you think that parent's only beat their kids if they fail English not science well then there is no help for you).

2. I am saying that in both these situations (kid beaten for not memorizing bible passages and kid not memorizing a periodic table) are the result of a parent beating their child for not doing what they (the parent) wanted and being unable to control themselves. And that in either situation, if the scenario was different (kid stole a phone, or skipped sunday school) the kid would probably still have gotten beaten because this is an issue of a parent being unable to control themselves.

I never said give religion a pass, I never trivialized this kid's death because it was religion. BOTH situations are issues of uncontrolled anger.
