Wife couldn't understand why the line in episode 3 where the ghoul says "Rule #1 of the wasteland, you always get sidetracked by some bullshit" made me literally belly laugh.

True to form the side quest episodes were by far the best ones.

Aside, I also absolutely love that they got Matt Berry as the voice of Mr Handy

I watched the first two episodes of the show with my mom last night. She, not even being aware of the game, seemed to enjoy the first two episodes. I enjoyed them too, a little more as I knew how good the show looked, the music choices being present in the games, and other things she wouldn't pick up on not being familiar with the games.

I like it so far, It really does nail the look and feel of Fallout, and again as a person who doesn't even know what the game is, my mom liked it too, so while if you know Fallout you'll enjoy it more, you don't need to know fallout to enjoy it as a Sci-fi-ish show.

Found out this show was out 8am yesterday. Watched 6 episodes at work that day, 1 at home that night, then the last episode this morning before work. Overall it was solid, but I do have some gripes. Mostly it’s all the inconsistencies that happened to advance the plot.

    Spoiler: show
Prologue and the first vault stuff was great, but Lucy was supposed to be really great at hand to hand combat but got the shit kicked out of her by some normal radiated dude.

Going from thinking the vault is the only safe bastion for any kind of humans and the rest are horrible radiated tainted creatures or practically feral people then jumping almost immediately to the organized clean world of the Brotherhood undermined that and the world itself pretty heavily. I understand a place like that could exist in Fallout’s world, I just thought it wasn’t a great move for that to be our first real intro to the outside world. Like, starting with the Ghoul instead of Brotherhood would have been so much better.

The dude getting his foot so badly cut by the razor was really wtf. Like, how did they get their foot so far down into the boot without noticing it. Like yeah, later you learn they did it themself, but at the time it really was so unbelievable it seeemd stupid. And even after, it’s like, why didn’t the higher-ups question that?

Following up with that… why was Maximus chosen to be a squire? It appears only the best are chosen, and they show made him seem to be a pretty poor one. And theeeen, Maximus was a very distrustful person who lied about everything almost the whole show. When he told his squire the truth of who he was, I swore all the way up until the new scene that it was going to be a dream. And knowing how a ghoul was created might have helped a bit sell how the squire got turned into one without just a “oh, I guess you’re a ghoul because this random crazy guy gave you some stuff to drink.” Like, obviously there’s some way to turn people into ghouls, but did chicken-fucker know what he was doing? Because it seemed completely random and that even he was surprised.

They never actually confirmed in any way that the brother killed the prisoners with rat poison, did they?

And the Enclave… We got nothing on them. Just a brief little show that they breed and train dogs and that they also recreated cold fusion? They did it once, why not again? I’ve got so many questions about these guy’s function in the show even with video game knowledge, but I don’t even know what to ask because they’re just so briefly mentioned and put aside.

I thought it was Betty that did the poisoning

Also, the whole series is about the Enclave. In the video games, we are told the Enclave was responsible to the nuclear holocaust, but the flashbacks say it was Vault Tec was the orchestrator. And when the cold fusion is activated, you can see Vault Tec on the label of the little pill.

Betty def looked like she could have done it.

Cold fusion was created by the Moldova lady’s company and then all the companies who had a hand in making it were bought by Vaulttec and they made it proprietary technology. I’m just trying to figure out how it got from that point to scientist guy injecting it into his neck and escaping.

And in the show, Vault Tec we are certainly led to believe Vault Tec blew the first nuke, considering Ghoul’s wife’s statement. It could be possible that group of people latter become known as Enclave.

I've never played a Fallout game (not sure how many there are); will I still be able to enjoy this?

While we're at it, what about "The Last of Us"? Same deal.

i've never played a fallout game and i'm enjoying the show. there are obviously little easter eggs and shit that you'll miss but nothing that is important to the overall plot. i never played either TLOU either and enjoyed the show greatly

Man, what an excellent show. Stuck the landing too. I fully admit I expected this show to be absolute garbage. Very pleasantly surprised.

I noticed so many shared music tracks between this and Better Call Saul lol

As I posted above, my mom whos never played a game in her life, let alone Fallout, has watched (now) the first 4 episodes with me and is enjoying it. I think you'll pick up on some things a little quicker having played the games, but its not at all necessary for enjoying it. Heck, knowing the game lore might even spoil a bit of the twists, I'm on episode 4 and I can already see a twist coming(can't confirm haven't watched the whole season yet) in relation Vault Tec because well, I know Fallout lore, but even my mom is piecing it together.

    Really fantastic show! Full spoilers:

Not a fan of having Vault-tec orchestrating the nuke. I'd preferred it if it was kept vague to leave more readings valid.

finished, not exactly high falutin art but a ton of fun, nailed the aesthetic, writing did well enough (Westwordly with all the tweests and multiple timelines but they aren't pointlessly convoluted and actually work here) and everyone acted out. said by many but indeed the best Fallout output since New Vegas.

As a Fallout games fan I honestly didn't have high hopes for this show, but they certainly managed to make an overall solid adaptation. I rarely binge any show, but I managed to finish all episodes in two days because of how fun and engaging it was.

I never played The Last of Us and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I only felt the last episode was a bit of a stretch, but I thought that was another overall solid show.

ella purnell and walton goggins carried the living hell out of this show, goggins especially. enjoyed it, i liked the finale quite a bit too. i just could not get over how...weird maximus's actor was. i like the character idea and arc, but some of his line deliveries and mannerisms were just so fucking bizarre lol.

Ella Purnell was actually my favorite actor on the show but Goggins was great too, especially straddling the multiple timelines and very different personalities in them.

Maximus was kind've the odd man out but given he's basically a traumatized child soldier raised in a feudal theocracy who is uncertain what an erection is, or possibly even a synth switcheroo, makes sense his emoting is weird as shit. also refreshing to see a pure himbo out in the world, that man is dumb as a rock.
