Ok, I'm caught up. I understand the reasoning behind wanting to clean up the thread a bit. It can get spammy in here and we all know that. That can be intimidating for new posters to walk into a sports thread and see pages of inside jokes and forum meme's. But the same can be said for every sports thread. Even the NHL thread which is near and dear to me. I think that the moderation was right in it's intent but wrong in execution.

Had Boyiee, Tyche, or any other mod//admin come in ahead of time and explained why we were doing what we're doing I really doubt any of you would have fussed that much. If at all. But when things are forced upon people with very little explanation, people tend to react negatively. I personally have no problem with the "." replies because to me it's the same as "I agree" or "qft" which we would never think of warning/infracting for. It would be extremely heavy handed. The points of moderation should be off topic posts. And imo that should only occur if it is a recurring problem. If for example, Church is consistently posting things other than NFL related posts then that's when something should be done.

That being said until the mods/admins can come to some conclusion as to how sports threads are moderated do like Tyche says and avoid the spammy stuff.

Thats a slippery slope though, because "spammy" is a completely subjective term. I see Cowboy talk as spam, others may see my love for Stanzi or Kyle Orton as spam. Same with Rhinox and his Bears love or Archi and his Rodgers and Packers fandom. NFL games are once a week, what else are we supposed to talk about? Boyiee should have just left this thread well enough alone and we'd not have this thread as the new beta test thread for corralling posts and posters.

Exactly. At some point he has to man up that he was wrong and move it on alone. I know he is blue now and there is a sense of "he cant be in the wrong now" because of it. I see your point and appreciate what you do for us here, but the real question is how can mods like You, Weave and others post here with us for YEARS and know the workings of the NFL thread, but Boyiee is a mod for a few minutes and is trying to rewrite the entire history of the NFL thread as if he has never posted here for YEARS before being modded? I have no issue with any mod and would like to think that I am on good terms with all of the older and/or original ones, its the new ones and the growing pains thats annoying. You just described 75% of BG. Wander into poopdeck, see arguing between people and memes and inside jokes fly all over the place, such as Bane's poop disorder. GD, Wop references fly all over the place. All of the different sports threads are made up of the same people posting in it, pretty much every year. In fact, if you go to the early versions of THIS thread from this year, we spent time wondering where certain people were, who were around from last year and years prior. Bentertainment, ESPECIALLY the manga/anime threads, are the same. I don't even have to mention spam. The wow threads? The same people. FFXI? Are you serious? There's a LINK to all the drama, memes and whatnot this website has generated, and no doubt will continue to do. And so on, and so forth. So please, enlighten us. What is this new initiative that the higher ups are trying to slowly push onto us? A fair point, it is a subjective term. But all the points that you brought up are football related. Which I guess I didn't make my point clear enough. I'm referring specifically to non football related posts as spammy. To be clear though, I'm not saying you make one post about something off topic you're getting infracted. But if there's more than a page(length is subjective) of off topic posts that would be when I would post in the thread telling you guys to get back on topic. If it continued past that then I would get with the infracting.

We have to keep in mind new posters jump into these threads. They may not contribute if they stroll into the NFL thread and find a conversation about which cigarette lighter spotlight is the best one for spotting deer in mid January in the Ozarks.

Probably has to do with attempting to appear legitimate, as opposed to a sanctuary for bots and assholes.

The problem is that the successful portion of BG (that plays video games such as MMO's and is successful in them) doesn't post here or associate with this website or the people that run it. I by no means dickride the portion of BG that still plays MMO's and isn't terrible, but I won't knock them for what they are either. There is no successful BG offshoot into another game and frankly there is a severe lack of understanding in terms of what a leader is and what qualifies them as such and in turn how your decision for said person to be of authority can reflect poorly on the site overall. We've seen a large increase in the amount of moderation that happens on sub-forums, especially gaming related ones, and while some is justified it is also out of left field. The primary issue isn't even that things are being modded, but that the actions taken are random and the issues are self inflicted. Sort of like Sadaam Hussein and the United States. I do believe people in my profession call that blowback. This is not synonymous with a "Vandy".

This is also not the first time we've seen leaky spam or the argument made that old-timers scare people away from posting - good? I think that's the intent most of the time. Lurk more. I joined the site in 2007? I had been reading it for 2 years prior to that but trolling GFaqs was still more fun/was also deployed.
