I'm just wondering, is this game still worth playing? I have been taking a year and a half break from it but I haven't canceled my account. I'm considering coming back.

Ok thanks for the reply. I tried KillingIfrit but its really dead. It's nice to talk to fellow FFXI again. I get so nostalgic about this game, I miss it.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently down, do *not* buy it right now. The game was released years too early, and despite generally negative feedback on the early betas, and almost sank SquareEnix. They shuffled the development team, suspended the subscription fee, and started to work out patches to try to fix it.

In the end SquareEnix decided the rebuild would be too extensive, and announced that they were going to take down the old Final Fantasy XIV servers and completely rebuild the game into a "new" game: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. That game is in early Alpha now, with betas coming in February and a release in 'mid-2013'.

You will have to purchase an account (by either buying it online or getting a box in a store) and there will be a subscription fee. How much has not been officially announced yet.

If you want to play Final Fantasy online. Final Fantasy XI is also an online only MMO, it is still up and running and is moderately popular. It has not gone free-2-play unlike a lot of its contemporaries, you will have to buy and account and pay a subscription fee.

Find me something else for 12.95 a month that entertains me nearly as much as ffxi does and I'll be utterly shocked. That's how I measure it's value.

This really is the truth of the matter. When you're bored and have the free time -- FFXI is great. You're hard pressed to even feed yourself for 2 days for $13, let alone provide a month of entertainment.

After playing both XI and XIV in 1 year, SE wasnt joking when they say "we expect people tpo play both same time"

Well at least this forum is still active. The other FFXI forums seem dead except this one. So how is FFXI these days? I heard a new expansion will be coming out soon. It seems like SE still has something up their sleeves for FFXI. I thought Abyssea was the end of the game.

how to play FFXI now
1) lvl 1-30 in the mines
2) aby burn to 99 in like ~12 hours; less if you have exp+ and you wont for your first job,more if you need to do limit break quests.
3) do end game stuff. No waiting loved coming back and gearing up to decent in a weeks time lol

In other words. It is doing just fine.

Agreed, abyssea changed everything, and while the proc bullshit has gone overboard (seriously fucking dynamis is nice for money and ease of building weapons, but the proc system and everybody fighting over a couple sets of mobs leaving 95% of the zones untouched 99% of the time is retarded), the ease of making yourself useful is great, and there's still a whole lot of room between functional and completely decked out.
