The Following (the serial killer show with Kevin Bacon)

Anyone else catch this last night?

I thought it might be terrible, actually turned out to be decent with a couple of deviations from the expected formula (although much of it was predictable and trite). I'll stick with it for at least a few more episodes.

So you decided to post in this thread without saying anything about the show and just try to be a smart-ass?

I watched the show last night and I was also mildly entertained. I rolled my eyes when it was said that Bacon "doesnt play well with others." He's a loose canon people! He plays by his own rules! I'll keep watching to see what happens.

I hate crime shows that don't have a week to week storyline. I don't want to wait 2 seasons to solve everything. It gets tiresome. Thankfully it's fox, so it'll be cancelled within one season.

I watched this and felt it was like most pilots involving crimes it's set to being that silly half origin/half setup. it'll be interesting to see how it progresses because its all set up and we need to see how it plays out before giving any more judgement on it.

I liked it enough that I might watch it again. Did anyone catch the part though where the guy who played Iceman in Xmen was going over how he thought the serial killer was getting off on stabbing people (forget the technical term) but then he tells Kevin Bacon he read his book and shit....so why didn't he know the real reason behind the stabbings?

This show is so poorly written, Jesus Christ.

"Maybe this serial killer that managed to cultivate a "following" and obviously spent years planning an elaborate scenario that involved breaking out, killing several people, turning himself in, and manipulate an FBI agent may tell his wife where the kid is..."

    Bacon's character "probably not"

    "well, let's see anyway"

    What the fuck....

I KNEW that agent was a part of the cult! Also,
    Spoiler: show
I think the kid is Kevin Bacon's son.

That "reveal" stinks of red herring to me. I think they want you to think that, but she's actually doing some sort of psychological trick to try to "bond" or get close with the guy. She is the head of the FBI's "Cult" division, she probably has a few tricks up her sleeve. I'm pretty sure there is an agent cultist, I just don't think it's her. To me, it's more likely it's the younger guy, who was waiting outside the cult house for Bacon. He probably had a key, just let himself in, then attacked Bacon, then took the mask back off and "vanished."

Maybe. Not sure if the timing works out, but maybe they were screwing long before he went to jail. The flashback last night showed their first kiss was after the divorce was final, which implies her time between lovers was a lot longer than would lead to confusion between fathers.

The FBI doesn't even have a "cult" division. The writers couldn't come up with something even slightly closer to reality?

This ep took it up a few notches.. wow, even with the flaws it was pretty graphic for a 9pm slot.

Why don't they just look at the prison visitor's log for the main crazy? I bet they would track down a bunch of his followers that way.

lol after the premiere i was actually gonna make a thread saying most of what you mentioned. some SERIOUS over-acting in the first episode. was gonna quit if the second episode sucked but they got rid of the agent who looked like admiral ackbar and it was instantly better (couldn't stop thinking "it's a trap!"). the mask scene really got me pretty fuckin good in ep 2 lol. hoping ep 3 is entertaining, too.

I'm still enjoying the show, although I have to periodically roll my eyes at certain decisions (backup? Why would we need to wait for backup?). I enjoyed what he did with the lawyer.

I finally figured out where I know the actress who plays the babysitter/kidnapper from:

Oh it's going to be one of those shows, where you can't trust anyone.

I should have seen that coming.

    Series spoiler:

    Spoiler: show

Kevin Bacon is in on it too. From the beginning. When he arrested him.

I'm not even sure how I feel about this show, my wife tells me a new episode is on demand and i'm like "Ehh..ok..ill watch it in a few". So far the episodes have been really cliche and none of the characters are believable. I mean I get that Bacon's character is withdrawn..BUT NO ONE IS THAT FUCKING WITHDRAWN. The kidnappers are just crazy for crazy sake at times and I dont believe anyone could orchestrate this type of shit through a chat group no matter how many girlboners he gives lol.

yeah super cliche. feels like i'm watching an extension of 24.

best part so far was when he was trolling jacob and paul. to paraphrase: "wait, you're gay, but he's not, but you want to be?" LOL

This show doesn't just jump the shark every week, Fonzie mounts that bitch and rides off into the sunset. I hate this show but I refuse to not know how it ends. I pray it gets cancelled and they wrap it up in the next 8 episodes.

This sums up exactly how I feel. The show reminds me of The Killing in a lot of ways. Starts with tremendous promise, has some neat ideas, then turns into a weekly Keystone Cops episode as the incompetent FBI and clueless local police try not to stumble over Kevin Bacon. Here it's not a Red Herring of the week so much as Disposable Cult Member of the Week.

And similar to the Killing, if it goes to a season two, I don't think I'll be following (hah!) the show, but I know I'll be sticking it out through the rest of this season.
