It means you use a ranged art (Yellow) right before that art. Same deal with melee combos, use a melee art (orange) before that art and you'll get the bonus. Though I think for melee arts it has to actually utilize your melee weapon. Like some gun arts are close range only but don't count for melee combos though I'm not 100% sure on that.

So, maxing a class, first, makes leveling any lower level ones a lot easier, as you get to equip the maxed classes weapons, and then use a full pallet of skills, right at lvl 1. Yes, you're still playing that maxed class, but as you get enough skills, you can swap over to to class weapons and play it then, vs struggling with less skill to get to the same point.

Can you level people that are not in your party?

I used Lao for a long time, and then I got an affinity quest where I couldn't use Lao so I got stuck with a low level character that always died

Nope. Only party members level. You could give them a Skel if you have one, that would more likely keep them alive in fights to get XP. I know what you mean though, it is rough at first if you are tackling mobs that they can't handle.

Dead party members still get XP after a fight is over so you don't even have to keep them alive. Just hop in a skell and slaughter some +3 level mobs (small to medium size so you don't get rekt'd) and they'll level up pretty quickly since they get bonus exp from being lower level than the mob.

Beat the game, had a blast, thank god for those tickets you mentioned Voyage. Also, an option available if you get a restricted character quest or mission is to use the scout board. I never used it since L is never restricted, but I learned while doing some grinding for the final boss that you can use one of those for getting through tough spots easier or help level up since there's no level difference xp penalty like in xi.

Someone mention quest to get Field/Mechanical skills to lvl 5? Where are those?

It's on the Basic Mission board. Should be called "Off the Record" and the objectives are all riddles that require you to visit specific places. If it doesn't show up keep exiting and reentering the board to refresh the list, it may take a while to show up.

Took the Affinity mission to treaty the No-pan caravans, and holy crap, was the Oblivion one a zone-wide road trip. Found a few high level mining probes though, so it was well worth the time. Any idea how many ores you're using to make things, end game? I have a bunch of the Yellow ores, and if I actually placed all of my high level probes, I'd be drowning in stuff from places I've already uncovered, and I haven't even touched two continents. Research probes seem a lot rarer, but I suppose that's what finding the scenic spots are for.

Also, I figured out that some enemies have spots you can only target if you jump/lock on before/while fighting them. It's probably easier, once you get a Skell, but it's a good way to get more items sooner.
