When I landed in K-Town on my first deployment, I hit the tarmac right as a massive crowd of Israeli and American troops started to gather around a separate transport coming in to the bay. Never before had I seen such a gathering so I figured a General or someone with rank was landing. Back opens up and only two people come out while it closes up and prepares to depart. Those two were the first two snipers I've ever seen (aside from the ones in AIT who went on to become snipers). What stunned me the most was their camo/flak was (absurdly) cut to hug the curves around the waist and breasts. Most of the Israeli guys just said "Shit you guys let females do this kind of work?". No one said shit as they walked past and gave the CO orders and went to their quarters.

For the first week or so, everyone wanted to talk to them but no one could get close. They had separate quarters from everyone in the AIG building, never talked to anyone, never ate chow with everyone, nothing. Till one day I go out to the bar and one of my buddies spies them both sitting there. Never before had i talked to a more fucked up/PTSD ridden person than I did when I spoke with them. But they were there and sure enough they were out on a transport straight to Iraq within the month; way before any of our asses got to see any combat.

While I agree that women should be allowed to sign up for combat roles, I do think they should be put through the same physical requirements as a male. I don't agree that they should be different in certain aspects though. Bunks, housing, showering, toilet, everything should be shared. Change the dynamics of the training to keep things like body image out of your head. This is your partner, this is your combat buddy. Not the fairy princess of your fantasy world. You die, she dies, just like any grunt on the field. Everyone has to deal with some type of personal body-chemistry thingamajig at some point. Women get periods? Men get major swamp ass. Deal with it. Adapt boot to weed out the failures and those who don't take the one basic concept to heart: "You're here to do a job. Act like a professional and treat your comrades with respect and dignity because they could die tomorrow. Love every one of them like they are your own brother and sister. And remember them, for if you always remember, they will never die."

Also while sex in the workplace is quite taboo, I don't think it's a huge sin. It's going to happen. Hell for every container of FS you pop open, there's at least 3-4 cartons of condoms. Who are we going to fuck that we need so many? A cactus? A camel? Last time I checked, there wasn't many prostitutes left in Kabul to use even a single roll of condoms spread out amongst an entire company. Practice good habits and don't completely outlaw it. Yeah you should get in some trouble for fraternization on the job but discharge? Stockade? Bah!

Two is a football squad now, apparently.

My offspring aside, I did serve. I agree that if the women in combat units can be kept exactly 100% equal with absolutely no differences between them and the men in the unit, then yes, it might work. But I can't see it happening this way because this country is far too hung up on political correctness to allow something like women sharing showers with men.

I mean their primary job is to be a cold hearted killer on top of remembering tons of stuff for intel. Most of the people they kill are anywhere from 0.5-1.5 miles away and pose no threat whatsoever to the sniper.

I'm surprised the israelis questioned why you let women into those kind of roles because it was my understanding israel has more women in its armed forces than the US, in proportion to population of course.

I'm gonna be honest, a lot of that story needs some broadening because none of it really makes sense. What I can read into it is 2 CIA officers came over to Kabul doing what they often do, looking and acting like they are special assassins.

This is exactly what I took away from it.

You might say well that's only a matter of self-control, but while you have plenty of people with some semblance of sense in the military, you also have quite a few with absolutely none.
So get rid of those people.

Wait so if women are drafted, does that mean that sometimes fathers can stay home and take care of kids? How would you decide who goes and who stays?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

it kinda does, only as the article mentioned it and others in the thread have discussed it already.

guartz does make a valid point, however. one parent has to stay home, if women were to be drafted, would they disallow mothers, or would it be something else?

Pentagon to Lift Ban on Women Serving in Combat

There's already a program in place within the Army that mandates a soldier possess a family care plan in the event one or both parents are unable to care for their children. If unable to create one the soldier is chaptered out of the military.

Dichotomy is a contrasting, often contradicting viewpoint.

What you understood my point to be was not what it actually was; the focus of my point wasn't that women were never allowed into West Point until that happened. The focus of my point was that she had complained about being given equal treatment and when it was finally given she couldn't handle it.

The underlying theme of that, of course, was that we should allow women to decide for their selves if the battlefield is somewhere they want to be or not. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with West Point.
