You guys should watch the Vice's Guide to North Korea with Shane Smith. Even the supposed "luxurious" areas of NK are freaking ghost towns, shits nuts.

Awesome video. Highly recommended to literally everyone.

You also have to see the one where they go to N Korean labor camps in Russia. That shit is surreal.

A S.Korean soldier serving on the front line was shot dead in near the border with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Seoul's Joongang Ilbo reported Monday.

S.Korean military has launched an investigation into the death.

The newspaper quoted an army source as saying a gunshot was heard around 2 pm, Sunday in Gangwon-do Cheorwon-gun.

Fellow troops recalled the dead, surnamed Kim, said he need to go to the bathroom. He was found dead with gunshot wounds a moment later.

I think people need to reread what happened during the Korean war before assuming a land invasion of North Korea is going to be a 'curbstomp.'

China wouldn't back them up this time and we learned quite a bit from Korea and Vietnam. It would be an airstrike bonanza with mop up duty after. Shit has changed in the last 50-60 years, believe it or not.

I don't see the point in kicking the crap out of a ghost nation with a generation of citizens whose only education is party indoctrination. It is still very rough in eastern Europe and there is a substantial generational gap in the useful labor forces. They were under the rule for less time / didn't fall as far as North Korea. Even assuming there is quick war and South Korea captures Kim Jong Un / tries him for crimes against humanity, I don't know if anyone would want to take over the territory currently occupied by North Korea along with its citizens. They would be a massive burden on any society.

Also yes, previously Chinese reinforcements/supplies and almost equal military intelligence kept the Korean War pretty much in a deadlock. A repeat would not result in a similar outcome and the world is not the same as it was in the 50s. They do have a lot of soldiers, and maybe even soldiers that would fight for the only employment they've ever known. They don't have nearly our military capacity or military intel, though. I mean... satellites, drones, more bombs than we need, etc. I think main danger with North Korea would be the government going insurgent once the country is overrun.

Because A, we wanted to rebuild that country and B, there was no neighboring country ready to clean it up for us.

Not that SK wants NK right now, but I'm pretty sure if we just leveled the fucking country and left, they would clean it up eventually.

Well he did go and blab to the press that Brilliant Leader's sperm isn't man enough to birth a son, so the shooting is clearly retaliation for the slander.

That undercover video is pretty sickening to me. I understand that things are harsh in many areas of the world, but there is food right there in front of these starving kids and those bastards couldn't give two shits.

Should just wait for another military parade for the dear leader and deliver 50 Tomahawks to the parade ground to kneecap the leadership. Immediately afterward, blockade the country, and erect large signs that say "Food for weapons" along the border and do exactly that. The country will disarm itself in a matter of weeks. Sure some people will die, but these assholes are starving, torturing, raping, and murdering people in droves anyway. In the long term it'd save lives.

They might get a nuke or two off assuming they have them actually assembled and fuel available, but Uncle Sugar has a zillion PAC-3s/SM-3s to lob at them before they land, right?

I'm no arm-chair general, but wouldn't a super emp nuke in high atmosphere precede said bombing/invasion of N.Korea. We would easily know first hand the exact hour, as the likelihood of all the S.Korean mmos going offline for a while would generate a particular disturbance that us gamers would subtly perceive. (depending on the strength of the bomb, still, you'd want it pretty potent to disrupt military communications)
