North Korea seen moving mid-range missile to east coast: reports
Wed, Apr 03 21:13 PM EDT

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea has moved what appears to be a mid-range Musudan missile to its east coast, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said on Thursday, quoting multiple government sources privy to intelligence from U.S. and South Korean authorities.

It was not clear if the missile was mounted with a warhead or whether the North was planning to fire it or was just putting it on display as a show of force, one South Korean government source was quoted as saying.

"South Korean and U.S. intelligence authorities have obtained indications the North has moved an object that appears to be a mid-range missile to the east coast," the source said.

The Musudan missile is believed to have a range of 3,000 km (1,875 miles) or more, which would put all of South Korea and Japan in range and possibly also the U.S. territory of Guam in the Pacific Ocean. North Korea is not believed to have tested these mid-range missiles, according to most independent experts

South Korea's defense ministry declined to comment.

North Korea has threatened a nuclear strike on the United States and missile attacks on its Pacific bases, including in Guam. Those threats followed new U.N. sanctions imposed on the North after it carried out its third nuclear test in February.

The missile was moved to the coast by train. The North has a missile launch site on the northeastern coast, which it has used to unsuccessfully test-fire long-range rockets in the past.

The Yonhap report did not say if the missile had been moved to the missile site.

Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper issued a similar report on Thursday, saying the North had moved what appeared to be a long-range missile to its east coast.

Hacktivist collective Anonymous has declared war on North Korea, The Week reported Wednesday.

While maintaining a critical stance against U.S. government policy, a press release posted on HTMLPaste also voiced harsh criticism of the DPRK, admonishing North Korean citizens “to rise up and bring these motherfuckers of [an] oppressive government down!”

The country’s technological isolationism, however, has caused some to view the impact of the announcement with skepticism.

The country’s national intranet is not connected to the larger Internet and features content from the rest of the globe only after it has been sanitized by government officials for its citizens’ consumption.

Sophie Schmidt, daughter of Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, said in a piece about her visit to North Korea as part of her father’s delegation that some university students had access to the intranet.

She also said that the delegation was shown an Internet-enabled tablet running on the Android operating system.

“Whether anyone, beyond very select students, high-ranking officials or occasional American delegation tourists, actually gets to use it is unknowable,” she said.

In 2007, a CIA analyst wrote that the North Korean government allowed its researchers to keep up with current global trends.

“Computers conducting Internet searches are more readily monitored than the photocopying machines that served to spread forbidden political tracts in the former Soviet Union,” wrote analyst Stephen C. Mercado.

North Korea announced Wednesday that it had authorized plans for the military to conduct nuclear strikes against targets in the U.S.

Tried to find an English source for the above article but couldn't, but seems pretty legit.

If they're mid-range missiles, why do they need to move them to the coast?

Less clean up when the missiles land in the ocean a few seconds after launch.

My Ideals on this whole shebang are it would be interesting to see a WW2 showing of us might level in full at nkorea. The resulting loss if life etc is horrible, but at the same time it's been a long ass time since someone has been dumb enough to piss off America, pearl harbor style.

Except Pearl Harbor was actually attacked...

EDIT: Serious question for those that want military action: What's the motivation? Is it because NK is just kind of annoying? Is it because you view them as a legitimate threat? Is it because you think other countries will respect the US military less if we let Monty Python-esque taunting go unpunished? Why do you want a military response?

Because if they attack South Korea, japan or our bases when we've had all this warning, it's on us.

If it does happen, we should respond with complete and utter annihilation. These people in the north are brainwashed to the point where they believe all the shit they hear from their little hitler.

No soldiers. Just planes and bombs. Lots of bombs.

if anything it would be targeted strikes to take out anything or operational value to the government and military, followed by a relief effort for the average citizens. once the propaganda stops, its made clear the Kims are gone for good, and they've had a few good solid meals courtesy of the rest of the world, they might start to think that maybe fearless leader was wrong.... i don't think he's deified himself in the eyes of the NK masses, loyalty beyond the point where he can't carry out his threats anymore could be relatively weak. I'd like to see them have some chance to try and adjust to the rest of the world. also, bombs are expensive.

Soon i see fearless leader grinding up his own citizens to produce methane, so the fight may (somehow) continue ... to loom on the horizon ... maybe

Because people like to spectate and discuss war but ask them to go fire bullets or drop bombs and they'll be the first ones getting a doctor's note.

I know people think Kim Jong Un is craaaaaaazy but even he and his generals aren't stupid enough to piss off half the world in an unprovoked attack to presumably take back the South. I know the common stock in NK is brainwashed but the reality is that he's probably doing this to legitimize himself amongst a handful of generals who seem him as a kid undeserving of thronedom. What does a young 20something do in such a case? Act hyper-aggressive, troll the world and play the part of strongarm dictator with ancient toys and foot-soldiers right up to the line that'd signal war.

Do enough song and dance to fool the military into thinking you're one step away from deploying them for great justice but never actually do it. If Kim were to have played softball with the West he'd have simply been signing his own death note. Pretty easy to poison a guy who seems to inhale his less fortunate citizens whole for dinner and take over the country as a military council. We'll say he fell off his horse on a ranch and died. Or that he was called into Heaven by God (Grandpa) himself who needed him for a special assignment.

If anything, it'd be an outside force that takes the bait and goes in Oppa Iraq style to be stuck cleaning up the shitstew that is North Korea.

Or the people develop a seething hatred of America: Fuck Yeah for shattering their reality regardless of the warm meals and humanitarian aid forming an insurgency to blunt any attempts to bring unity to the Korean peninsula.

You seem to forget that you can present the facts to people but that doesn't guarantee anything. Often it just further entrenches their original position (that Kim is a God, the West are aggressors, that the South are traitors)
