Currently there are snap talks between SK and NK since the deadline, unsure of progress. NK keeps aggressively mobilizing, SK keeps pulling in and readying forces. Some areas are under evacuation, and iirc, a couple have had the evacuation order lifted, so, unclear.

I've lived in Korea for the better part of five years, which means I was here for Yeonpyeong and the sinking of the Cheonan. Friday was the first time that I've seen any noticeable concern among the general populace. It took a few hours for SK to fire back, but they responded 20-fold to NK's artillery shot. One of the guys in my office remarked, 'Oh no, [Park Geun-hye] might actually start this.' Most of my friends are still young enough to be part of the reserve, so there have been a lot of nervous discussions asking if anyone has gotten the call to report back to the military.

Fast forward a couple of days, and life is back to normal. Two sides are talking, NK is waving its penis, and people are just back to talking about soccer and which member of AOA they want to fuck. Friday was a pretty tense time, though.

Yeah true on this they were trying to supress it but it still got out that china was moving their troops and ground forces to their border with NK. If kim goes too far it wont be the SK and americans who are gonna give him the shove off.

Way things are going I'd say fair play to the SK side for showing some resolve. NK is basically a loose cannon and sooner or later its going to go. They use bellicose BS but lately theyre getting more and more unpredictable and unstable. Kin is most likely in a weak position which makes him a dangerously unstable leader and sooner or later hell go too far. SK not backing down is the only way to shut him down ahort of a 2nd korean war whuch he will lose and contrary to what they say they know it as well. Their general armys larger but using outdated soviet hardware which is nowhere as effective as modern military hardware.

They dont want US troops next to their border for their own reasons but if NK dissapears and is reunited with SK thered be no reason for the US to remain their either and they know this. As long as they came to a deal with the US regarding unification of the peninsula under SK control in return for a US withdrawal and respecting a Unified Koreas soviernty it would work in their favour. Was all fine having NK there till they got nukes at which point they became a liability to china and the US has issues in the crazy east to deal with as well.

I agree 100%. NK has gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too far, and now even China is starting to back off and instead do business with SK. I can't see China going against SK, because they are under a treaty that expires in 2021, but I definitely see China not taking any military action against SK, and instead providing relief support in the instance where NK and SK clash. Kim hasn't done anything to court China for business or trade, and instead allowed SK move in and form a strong bond, especially after 2006 when NK became nuclear capable (against China's wishes).

I think their military is reasonably well advanced. Access to nukes implies you have certain abilities to miniaturize electronics and other things along those lines. They probably got certain technology upgrades from China until daddy died. I wouldn't be surprised if they had roughly the equivalent of the US forces in the first gulf war.

Ehhh... I may be badly incorrect, but US Marine Snipers have been using ever so slight variants of the same M40 issued in the 1960's. The top notch shit you see in military demonstrations videos online will probably either never see combat, or a decade + away from being introduced into general ranks. Blame this on our political system of budget misappropriation/management. We spend next to nothing on R&D while most of the budgeted military spending goes to contractors high-balling the government for contracts on outdated tech, which then almost always falls into the hands of our enemies.

We're just NOW going to start field testing for Ship Mounted Rail Guns, and expected to go live past 2020. This tech, by the way, was first theorized/invented in 1918, advanced in the 1940's, and the technology required for the modern variant was largely attained by the 1960's.

Just pointing out that the first nukes were created in the 40s. Nukes are (or can be) a pre-digital technology.

That's mostly because rifles haven't really improved since the 60s. It's not like anyone else has drastically better ones. The technology has plateaued.
