How much counter does a monk have, assuming enhanced counterstance and full counter merits? Is it Base 12%, +5% from merits, and +55% from counterstance?

72% before gear.

12 trait 5 merits 45 counterstance 10 boots+2, yes.

I dont think that works the same, sice KI are player specific, whereas atma are ally wide. Id test it first on an easy to pop useless NM before wasting a set.

I think players get a unique id upon zoning, which may reset when u go to change job.

A friend was interested in trying the game out, so I was going to let him use one of my alts to dick around on. Wasn't there an official direct download somewhere, or do I have to convince him to torrent it or buy it steam?

Outside of the trial account client they offer (which since the trial limits you to core-XI areas, I doubt has expansion-pack locations), I'm not aware of any official direct downloads for the XI client for the public servers.

Something that still baffles me to this day; why isn't there a download option from the SE-Account page sections for XI/XIV?

Compared to 90 masamune not far at all, they are close to identical under normal circumstances from the math I've seen posted around. Masamune should pull ahead when you have lots of tp overflow, like in VW, or when your attack vs mob defense is so high that fudo beats shoha. Thou in the latter case you're better off using draca couse + stardriver anyway.

Can be done pretty easily with mnk/war whm/thf without brew procing blue during blunt period. Any other jobs are extra

That happened to me once years ago. At first I could just close out of POL and the next launch or two would load correctly. Then eventually I would get this every time and I had to reinstall to fix it.
