For me, GoT is the worse offender. I could still watch various seasons of Dexter even right after the final season and still enjoy it. I have 0 desire to watch any of GoT again
How can they even continue this? I can't imagine how...
dexter, lost, and battlestar galactica all had vastly worse finales than game of thrones imo. got's ending was bad but dexter, lost, and bsg's endings were comically bad
BSG ending was rushed because the show was bleeding money (episodes were massively expensive). I honestly believe they had a lot more they wanted to do and had to rush to fit it in to that last season, which did have a lot of great moments, nonetheless.
Apparently the showrunner from seasons 1-4 is going to do this series. So, we got that going for us and fix the god damned ending.
BSG's ending is absolute balls but it doesn't match Game's wretchedness as its last season had quite a few good bits to it (Gaeta's Mutiny was some of the best work the series did) while the entirety of Game's Season 8 is fuckin orrible. BSG botched the landing but Game turned into an unwatchable catastrophe of embarrassing proportions for two years before it finally, mercifully, ended.
I think Dexter is the worst because there was no reason for it to be that bad. I think other examples have some semblance of excuse of budget or clumsy sci-fi vs faith conclusions.
I'm convinced the people arguing that GoT's ending wasn't as bad haven't actually seen GoT's ending.
(i liked bsg finale don't @ me)
I'm convinced no one here has argued that GOT was NOT bad. It was fucking terrible. Dexter just stands out as the absolute worst. GOT was infinitely better than Dexter, so the letdown was bigger and I'll agree with that. From just a writing standpoint, nothing comes close to Dexter.
Stuff like BSG and GoT was largely because it so rushed.
Dexter had been locked in a downward spiral since like season 4 because they were intent on dragging it out for way too long (due to the writers trying everything possible to not punish the fucking serial killer and trying to frame him more as a misguided kid and not you know... a fucking serial killer) and had written themselves into a corner. Then instead of actually coming up with a real resolution to the plot they just launched the shark into fucking orbit.
At least they didn't stick to the source material
Very true, the books got so fucking weird
Spoiler: show
I may think you're crazy for believing Dexter's ending was worse than GoT, but I'm fully aware that no one is insane enough to argue that GoT ending wasn't bad.
its funny. when you sit back and think about it there's a ridiculous amount of popular shows that had finales that were terrible
it's harder to find finales that were good, like breaking bad
PnR and 30 Rock both ended perfect
Edit : The Good Place too.
