How the hell did square get away with showing old trailers and giving an announcement about E3? Feel like from what I'm hearing Sony shoulda gone through everybody's itinerary lol..

Unless they offer free play of PS1/2/3 games via their Gaikai service for PS+ users, I'd rather just download the game straight to my HD as I already am with PS1/2 Classics on PS3.

Also with the specs of that rig, I'm expecting an actual software PS2 emulator to play my old PS2 discs on.

Also this. I've been spoiled by the self-feeding drive of both my fat and slim PS3, even if the discs are a bitch to get out when the hardware dies.

Journos were tweeting that the hardware had undergone some last minute spec revisions, so whatever design they had would need physical modifications to fit the extra memory + the cooling for said RAM.

I can concede that digital onry is the future of the industry upon initial purchase. My worries come with how much Sony (and an extension, companies like EA will follow suit, and so on and so on) will charge to let us use this cloud service.

Subscription based? Then would people who never purchased the original title be able to play what we paid 40-60 for and now 12 bucks a month for?
Code based? How much per title will it be to play these titles after already paying for them?
Sign on I.D. based? If the game can read the data off the discs to upload them to the cloud, why couldn't Sony just man up and make it backwards compatible?

Don't know about bringing this all back up, and it's prolly already been discussed ad nauseum during the announcement. But used games aren't going away. Gamestop will simply give way to Sony or Microsoft sponsored online marketplaces where you can buy games you already own for 10-30 bucks based on generation and they "get" their money back that way. That serves noone cept the developer because they aren't going to pass that increased revenue down into decreased prices and chances are they won't use it to fund more risky titles.

SE has been doing alright financially recently outside of the XIV debacle and we have yet to see another real attempt at a Mana or Chrono title. Companies like EA just spam generic military shooters now and print money. Color me unexcited about this "next gen" so far because nothing new is being done, and I fear the industry will suffer when it is in an already precarious position of beginning to contract.

You do realize that the primary reason you didn't see many new things is that companies like EA/Ubisoft/Take Two and Activision are likely under NDA until E3 for their new multiplat announcements, right?

All the more reason to be unexcited when I can inevitably buy a price dropped Wii U come X-Mas and not be left out of anything I want to play.

For a company that cut its teeth entering the industry on nabbing some of these big name 3rd party titles, even the PS2 and PS3 had more to offer at their reveals. The whole event just felt underwhelming to me. If the console is ready for a holiday launch, Im sure they have at least one title they can go out there with confidence and say "THIS will only be on PS4 and it's why you need one".

Idk, I think Sony will have great games at launch. Killzone looked like a lot of fun. That first one, the cartoony action game.. looked silly, but I bet it will be awesome. Witness (based on it's developer and exclusivity) will be great too.
Even with a bunch of the announcements being meh or cross-console, PS4 looks like a preorder waiting to happen for me. It'll be really interesting to see what Microsoft has to say.

Biggest whiffs: Blizzard was only out done but Squareenix. I was so hoping for a left field Blizzard new MMO announcement. I know better, but still. SE just didn't give anything. Continuing their path downhill...
