XIV on PS4, maybehttp://gematsu.com/2013/02/final-fan...-playstation-4Final Fantasy XIV is due out on PlayStation 3 and PC this summer, but according to producer Naoki Yoshida, a next-gen version is also a possibility.
“We have been promising our players for over three years that we’re going to bring this game out on PlayStation 3,” Yoshida told IGN (note: this interview was conducted before PlayStation 4′s official announcement). “We’re definitely going to keep that promise and that’s what we’re focusing on at the moment. That being said we do have a Windows version which is very high end, so as long as the console side is going to have a high spec it’s not a problem for us to match those console’s requirements.”

New Oddworld?http://gematsu.com/2013/02/oddworld-...tion-4-projectJust Add Water is working on a new game for PlayStation 4. The Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD developer teased the project in a blog post this morning.
“By now you’ll have eagerly lapped up all the information from the Sony PlayStation announcement,” said JAW community and PR manager Daniel Morse. “You’ll have seen our name in the list of confirmed developers. We’re delighted to finally be able to tell you that JAW are developing for the Sony PlayStation 4. We can’t talk about what we’re working on just yet. Just be assured it’ll be worth the wait.”

Do you have any idea the shitstorm that would come if you had to buy something to get used games work? my god I buy almost no game new(outside very few) and there are tons of others like me.
With them placing the idea that games work now it be like shooting a shotgun shell into their foot and then aiming to walk a tightrope. I can not see this happening lol
Gaikai better be up and running at launch or PS4 won't be a day one buy for me. Having to keep your PS3 just to play old (and current) titles is utterly ridiculous in 2013. Supposedly it's impossible to use PS3 blurays on PS4 because of the cell processor. I wonder how much truth that actually holds.
It's a completely different hardware architecture without any built-in ability to natively run PS3 code, so yeah I'd say it's the truth.
Gaikai won't offer 100% of the (700+ title) PS3 library at launch. Instead expect a sampling of their top-selling 1st party games, with a regular release schedule while the money keeps coming in. Something closer to the 360 BC model, where updates came as long as players were still buying the BC-capable consoles. The real question is whether or not you'll have to re-buy your PSN games on Gaikai. I'm going to suspect the answer there is 'yes' because it's Sony and Sony don't curr.
I just hope they're not using Gaikai as an excuse as to why there may not be a PS2 emulator on the PS4 itself, just so they can milk the PS2 Classics/Streaming some more. Also annoyed it won't work with Dualshock 3s. Why not? Outside of the touchpad it has the same number of button inputs. I don't see any games using that pad extensively anyhow since you have to take your thumb off the face-button/analog sticks to use it.
Pipe-dream for me would be some form of PS3 module you can pay extra for to connect to the PS4 to play PS3 shit without needing to keep your PS3 hooked up. Granted, given it'd basically need the guts of Cell and possibly the GPU also, it wouldn't come cheap....and would need its own power source.
I was upset when my PS3 that had BC died because I no longer had a PS2, but I don't think I'll get rid of my PS3 whenever I end up getting the 4, so I'm not huge on that loss.
No. But at the very least Wii U is up to HD grade now. Atlus and Enix are throwing their flagship franchises behind it, don't be surprised when numerous more do the same this time around. I fully expect the next FF title to be on all 3 consoles. I've been saying that for 3 generations yes, but now that it's a given that the 360 is getting those titles now I don't see why companies like Square won't do the same.
But this is the thing that is starting to irk me. These console companies keep pushing to make things prettier at the expense of functionality. There should be no reason to fork over 400-600+however many games you buy at 60 a pop every 6-8 years while your previous purchase becomes segregated and incapable of working with what you're wanting to buy. Things are pretty enough without spending 4,000 on a TV. How about focusing on making it worthwhile for you to abandon the PS3, 360, or Wii completely and then you have built in exclusivity in a retail game market that has moved further and further away from console exclusivity.
I imagine it'd be like trying to use Radeon drivers on a Nvidia card. It should be like trying to use MIPS assembly on an Atmel microprocessor. At the very least it'd be something akin to using a C# library in a C program.
Actually this is making me think of a bunch of questions. Are games typically written in a high level language like C? I'm starting to wonder why ports are so hard. Is it purely issues brought on my extreme optimization?
I don't know about nowadays, but in the late 90s early 00s if you optimized to a console it involved using assembly.
Interested in hearing what he has to say when he's able to speak freely.
