I might have to check that out if it doesn't retail at $40... but it will.

Just starting out. I have up to Volcano of Vulcan unlocked. Need a good green monster... is there any better way than spamming Dungeon of Wood (which is 1/2 stamina right now, thankfully) and leveling up a Goblin?

I think you can get a Green Golem during the early stages, but the rates are really low. Early on, it doesn't really matter what you have. When you get to endgame, you'll be using mainly REM or descend drops, so nothing you can farm now would stick around. Things like the mystic knights come around every so often, and then collab drops are sometimes pretty decent for new players, but that's it. The PAL machine can drop decent stuff like the Ripper dragons ("<color> Dragon"). But if you must have something, IMO the Fighters / Knights and carbuncles are the most well-rounded early, farmable units.

There's a godfest coming in tomorrow, so I'd save your stones (if you weren't already) and then possibly rolling then. Or if you had a bad first roll, rerolling for a Chinese god would be great as well.

What are you working with now?

Ok. I won't worry about it too much for the moment, then. I think I have a green carbuncle lying around... or if not, I can get one easily.

    Right now I've got
    - (light) Shin, a rare monster from the Fist of the North Star deal. Single-handedly destroys most mobs (even bosses when his ability is up), but there are only so many light orbs to go around.
    - (fire) Dub-rubylit, a piece of Evo Material with an amazing stat/cost ratio for this part of the game.
    - (dark) Mid Dark Ninja
    - (water) Plesiel, who really isn't that useful right now but I'm attached to since he was my first

I've got a couple of other good ones - Keeper of Water, Dino Rider Drake - but they're too expensive to be worth a slot. Shin alone takes up a huge amount of cost, although he's worth it imo.

Too late to reroll I think, but I do have five magic stones saved up.

I've been running with that team and picking a wind helper when I can, but it's annoying to have all those green orbs laying around, all shiny and useless. And I've got six cost left to fill anyway, so I want to use that spot.

Hmm... is it possible for the Forest Dragon to drop his egg? Edit: His name is Bracyhs and no... no, it's not

I'm guessing your first roll was the Dino Rider, in which case you should definitely reroll (if you're in this for the long haul). I dunno how active you've been playing, but based on the dungeon, you're really only a few days into the game at most, which is not a significant investment at all. Any of the Chinese gods would be a huge upgrade, and even Norse mono-teams would be great for you. Or you can wait until midnight rolls around, spend your 5 gems, and if you don't get something good, then reroll.

In general, you should concentrate on clearing as many orbs every turn, even if they're off-color. This will be hard when you just started, but keep practicing. Also don't get tempted to get one of every color to "not waste orbs." Diluting your team significantly hurts your overall output.

Shin is also pretty bad for new players, since his LS (leader skill) benefits devils, and devils are really hard to build around for new players (i.e. good devils are mainly from REM).

Most of the early-stage bosses don't drop their eggs.

You can look here for more details, this is a great resource in general as well:

This is also a good quick read:

They can be good in very niche teams, but in general, they're quite bad for beginners, because there's no saying if you'll ever get the right pieces to make said niche teams, even if you spend hundreds.

Also, at your stage in the game (and for quite a while longer), you should be stomping everything with even random units. The difficulty scales up quite a bit later on, and you'll need a lot more firepower to kill things. I think the game is designed to be so easy early on, to bait people to IAP when they hit a wall later.

You're definitely right--the amount of content can be very overwhelming for a new player. But if you're into team-building games, and enjoy the puzzle aspect, then this is one of the best out there.

Ok thanks. I'll have to decide whether I want to invest the time and effort to figure out the ins and outs of building a decent team... or just play the shit out of the game, hit a wall, and stop. Either way I appreciate your help!

In general, what should I be looking for if I decide to reroll? Or do you know of a good team-building FAQ?

Reroll guide (you'll never find a "perfect" one because people naturally disagree on certain rankings, but this one is decent, and has short descriptions of each):

Team building - many of the recommended monsters have been outdated by now, but the concepts are still the same, and once you grasp the concepts, you'll get the idea and be able to build your own teams:

Godfest tomorrow btw, along with a one-time Red Letter deal: 5 stones for $1, which isn't bad at all. Did they do a survey for new ultimates somewhere recently? I know they added a kickass Liu Bei (hello Zhuge Liang sub) and Andromeda.

Pro tip. You don't want to use earth in a fire dungeon.... but like was already said probably worth re-rolling. Also, even if you do not attack with a color doesn't mean the orbs are useless. The combos still count in your damage multiplier.

Ok, thanks (especially to Anakron). Another question: If I do reroll is it worth waiting until tonight for Godfest?

I'm starting to learn a bit more about this game; it seems like team-building and synergy is pretty much where it's at.

Yeah, if you're gonna reroll, tomorrow would be the day to do it. Odin's at a 1x rate, but a bunch of the other gods, some of which are really good, are at 3x, including Metatron. Keep in mind it's mixed in with Heaven's Gala pool as well.

Liu Bei and Andromeda have been out in JP for a while now, but they were released in NA/EU today. They did do a survey for new ultimates, but the results haven't been announced yet.

But yes, wait until midnight / tomorrow to reroll. Most of the Chinese gods are good enough to start with.

fuck yes. I rolled a God tier on my first try lol. Red Dragon Caller Sonia.

can't even use her yet lol and it seems (from the wiki) that she won't be as useful until much later on, but I'm ok with that. the tutorial dungeon is annoying and I have no desire to reroll again.

That's some crazy luck there. Definitely keep her, and just use your starter dragon for now (hope you picked red!). A mono-team will carry you through most of the normal dungeons.

If you can finish enough dungeons, you can probably roll one or two more times during this godfest (active for another 38 hours or so).

next pull was Pierdra (not so good) but I did the $1/5 stones deal and got Strawberry Dragon... not a devil, but should still prove useful at some point, I think. yeah, I feel lucky today! plus Strawberry Dragon is adorable. at first I thought he'd go well with Sonia but that 2.5atk for devils is hard to ignore... oh well, still awesome. In fact Strawberry as leader might work for a while, not sure.

On that note, it's annoying that Red Dragon Caller doesn't directly boost Red Dragons... lol

Guess you used up all your luck for that Ronia.

Your starter dragon eventually gets 2xATK and 2xRCV for the appropriate color. Strawberry gets 2xHP and 2xRCV for red, so they're pretty comparable. The fruit dragons (strawberry is the red fruit dragon) are decently expensive cost-wise, though, so it'll probably give you more wiggle room if you stuck with your starter dragon for now.
