NYC Valentine's day - Need dinner recommendation.

Looking for a place to take the girl for dinner next week.

We were thinking steak & lobster tail, and going to either Morton's or something as we've never been, but a few other recommendations came up and people thought to broaden our menu choices a bit. Fig&Olive came up as well as a few other places. It doesn't have to be overly romantic, or romantic at all for that matter.

I've been to Ruth's Chris before and the Homestead, and was originally just going to do RC again. But then the thought of an even better steak came to mind. We're looking to splurge a little and spend anywhere up to $100 each, but we don't necessarily want to have to overdress either.

Location wise, we'll be at ground zero around 5pm and were planning to eat after that, anywhere from 6-8p. We'll be taking a taxi to wherever we go. Some of the places I've looked at still have reservations available, so there should still be time.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I work a few blocks from Fig and Olive, and it's almost always less than half-full. I'm sure that changes on V-Day, but just sayin.

I'm a sucker for Korean BBQ.

I used this new plugin called BiteScore along with OpenTable's valentine's list of restaurants. You can really figure out which one has an A restaurant inspection from BiteScore and then select what is in your price range on OpenTable.

There's a lot of restaurants that are doing half price specials and such as it's restaurant week or some shit. Going to be there as well for a week or so. I'll post some of the specials in a bit. Girlfriend is a CIA graduate that lived in Manhattan for 22yrs, so she has some great recommendations

We've got a snow blower, but it looks like its gonna melt at record pace.

How expensive is morton's exactly? And I've heard good things about fig&olive but I really want a steak, so it's gotta be pretty amazing to change my mind.

At Morton's if you get drinks appetizer dinner and desert you could be paying 200 to 300 easy but it depends on what you order really. To be honest though, I've only been to the one in Atlantic city so ny prices could be different.

We went in Cali and it was close to $500 or so for five of us. Buddy of mine who works for a well known American branch of a certain handheld game (Pikachu! *cough*) paid for the entire meal though.

What's the attire requirement like at Morton's? It sounds like the best option, and price-wise we don't drink much so we'll probably be able to keep it under 200.

Wolfgang's, Benjamin's steakhouse, and Ruths Chris keep getting recommended to me. Might just do RC for the menu variety, otherwise both Wolfs and Benjamin's are starting to look more and more appetizing. Now to debate a steak for 2/porterhouse, or to go with filet.

Benjamin's is aIGHT. Nothing special at all, I've had better steaks at Logan's for a shit load cheaper.

For steak, Peter Lugers in Brooklyn. Butter is a great place for Mediterranean with a local twist near Astor Place. Atlantic Grill on 3rd ave is a good sort of surf and turf spot. The Ace Hotel has 3 restaurants; one seafood, one gastro pub, and steak house bistro style.

She said these should be fairly easy to get reservations for early hours. If you show up early, like 5ish, at the hotel all 3 restaurants should be seating.

She knows some amazing places for authentic international food as well if you're interested

But seriously, Peter Lugers sounds like the best if you flat out want amazing steak. They dry age it in house, hand pick their meat from only certain farms, and only from specific breeds of cow.

Yeah I know that Peter Lugers is the best, but it's a little out of the way and I think its cash only if I remember correctly. One of the main reasons I wanted to check out Wolfgang's was because it's a duplicate.

We got dragged up to Ninja NYC last October and all of the meat eaters in our entourage, who insisted we go there in the first place, seemed to really enjoy it. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for Japanese cuisine or vegetarian friendly. It was more like a steak house with slightly Japanese flavor. My girlfriend and I spent $40 on $10 worth of food and left hungry. It's a very theatrical join though. A lot of presentation. The highlight of our meal was the magician who came in at the end of the meal.

Eataly has to be one of my all-time favorite places to go in NYC. Get there 30-45 min early, grab a glass of wine and walk around their outstanding market and shops while waiting for your reservation. Or you can head to their rooftop beer garden where they have a huge list of drafts and specials. Great place as there are about 7 places to eat within the building so whatever trips your trigger.

You're already probably too late to get a reservation at Lugers.

A friend of mine had to get a reservation there a month or so in advance, and that was just for a regular Friday night.
