I think they still have a lot of work to do to get the word out there that this is a completely new game judging by some of the comments I've seen to media articles. But I think most people who have any interest in FF or new MMOs will at least give the open beta a try.

While I don't really haunt gaming media sites, I wouldn't be surprised if people are just burnt out on MMOs in general. So, SE fucking up the first time is still a pretty big blow, but even if the game is turned around and not only playable, but enjoyable, it's still an MMO with all its pros and cons. Hopefully less cons. Though, with all the arguing I've been doing with people lately regarding various antiquated game mechanics, I don't expect those cons to be going away because some have been literally brainwashed to believe their essential.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I just received my beta email and I am NOT a legacy member, I was however in the first wave of alpha testers. So for people who are waiting on a beta invite and weren't legacy but were in the alpha there is hope!

Non-legacy but purchased FFXIV back in 1.0. Just received my Beta invite and downloading the client now.

My rig's average at best (560 Ti, i5, 8 Gb RAM, Win7), didn't get into the Alpha til the later stages and didn't even really play 1.0 as I was gifted an account by a friend but the game didn't strike me as particularly worthwhile at the time...looks like it didn't matter though.

It was nice of them to go back on their "being in alpha doesn't guarantee beta invite". It just seemed a bit wrong to exclude people who had put time and effort into testing an earlier version.
