Of course I get an invite, it takes forever to update (may or may not have finished) and is now in maintenance. *sigh*

Are beta testers allowed to steam the game for those of us not lucky enough to get a key?
That would be breaking the still-enforced NDA, so no.
Was hoping to get an invite, this round, to see how my Benchmark score (4200 max settings) compared to playing the real game. Still, 4-6 months, until release, is a lot of time to get into a Beta and I'm sure there will be plenty of feedback on all range of scores.
Friend got Beta invite (gd me for signing him up), never played FFXIV beta or otherwise ~ signed him up for windows only
Do I need to track down my original squeenix password key thing to log into se's site at some point to play 14?
Unless you're up to making a new account all together. You can retrieve your password on the account management login page only using your registered email. Do realize, if you make a new account, if you previously owned FFXIV 1.0, there is a chance you won't be able to download the new client for free.
So to make sure I'm understanding you... I DO need to try to track down my one-time-key-thing to ensure that I can download the new game when it comes out in a few months.
If I can NOT find my log in keys, we have to make new accounts, and there's a chance we won't be able to download the game.
My wife and I did some house remodeling and moved our office since XIV came out, and while I'm pretty sure we didn't toss them, we have no idea where they went.
edit: on the bright side, I unburied mine. On the less bright side, she can't find hers. Anybody want to volunteer to be my pet healer in her place? :D
You have it backwards. You need the password to your Square-Enix account, which can be reset using the email account used to register it in the first place.
The new flavor of the week on the forums seems to be people bitching about having to pay to play the game, and this just in:
Cash shops will ruin the game.
I don't know why I even go there, I know it will infuriate me each time I visit but I keep going back.
Well, I was able to get in, reset my password, found my key thing, and it let me see my account. Obviously at the moment it just shows that I cancelled my ff14 sub a few years ago, but I assume I'll be able to use this to download the game later.
If I get beta access (assuming they don't run out before they supply all the dumbshit mouthbreathers that use the official forums), do I just log into my account and apply the code, then download?
You'd think owning the collectors edition of the game and having played it in the past would entitle me to getting in the beta. /cry
No shit...
The thing is, you would, but only if you played it (and paid for it, I think?) for three months.
People seem to forget that their Collector's Edition got them an Onion Helm, a leather-bound XIV journal, a fancy box, a security token, and a week-early access to the game.
