Opening up a wiki is hard now? Challenge doesn't come from hiding readily obtainable information.

That said, I have always advocated for toggles. Toggle to turn quest markers, aggro indicators, etc. on and off. If you want to play "raw" then feel free, but don't force it on everyone else: asking for the game to hide information that you can easily check with a browser (like everyone did in XI) just feels dumb to me.

People just have a boner over the idea that withholding information creates a stronger community outside the game via wikis/guides/forums/theories/etc. and encourages more communication between players.

There is a drop of truth to it, but at the great expense of being slightly inconvenient. Don't worry though, there are more than enough morons who can't read or utilize in-game features to keep them shouting every retarded question they have.

I'm not too concerned about it, as I will fully embrace the modding community with UI modding tools. I also await all the mouth breather tears of how modders are ruining this game, and by us modding the games UI, are ruining their experience.

It might not be challenging, but the fact it requires dedication is one way to make it feel like an accomplishment.

Hell, be it learning a language or playing guitar, with enough dedication anyone can learn to be good at something. Which doesn't mean it's not an accomplishment you can't feel good about.

I mean something like obtaining relic may not have been all that challenging, but the dedication required is not something everyone has in them.

Surely there are a lot better ways to make something require dedication and be challenging at the same time, both together should give the best results naturally.

I also can't wait til they add DX11 support.
You KNOW there will be PS3 players that will claim it's unfair.
These people make me ashamed to say I enjoyed FFXI. I don't wanna be counted as part of their group! D:

Has there been a public posting about what is getting added in which beta phases? I thought I recalled seeing something, but I'm not sure if it was speculation or not.

I'm wondering when we'll start to get some (hard) information about the changes to Linkshells and addition of Free Companies.

The beta test roadmap is your best bet, though it doesn't mention free companies that I see.

    Certainly no hard information though.

Nowadays, games are 90% awesome and all, but you can play them with your eyes closed, cause everything is like... right in front of you.

Not saying there isn't hard content in some games, but still, everything is like... right there. lol

No se como explain that any better TBH, but I'll take last gen's learning curve over this one's any day. :3
Make a post pointing out the hypocrisies of XI, badly designed mechanics, post gets 2600 likes, gets deleted by the mods on general discussion .

"Does anyone know where hi potion is?!!!"

I heard that about 50 times over the weekend. Sure is hard-mode up in here.

People are too used to turning their brains off when playing. Hi-potion is one of the examples when I felt ashamed for my friends asking this question, another was when they first changed classes:
    "So, Conjurer doesn't get Sprint?"

I saw that bit about Sprint twice in Alpha. XD

Regarding the hi-potions, I personally like how talkative the NPCs are in XIV, but I do believe that a lot of folks just click right through it all, thereby missing important text. Maybe it should be highlighted or something a la Legend of Zelda.

That way, if people are intent on just ignoring everything someone has to say so they can get back to XPing, they won't miss the vital bits of information useful to their progression, like the location of the NPC selling hi-potions.

*insert Relevant Information twinkling sound effect here*

Exactly how easy do we want these games? It doesn't need to be EverQuest, we've established that. But it shouldn't be playing Connect Four by yourself, either.

I have hopes that FFXIV can find that balance, but it's no forgone thing.
I know this is late but just want to say that the log does say where the mobs are. Not the specific location, but it does say which map.

Well, I mean even I did click-through that quest as I don't read everything in beta, but is it so much to guess you can look at some vendors?

Yeah, but he's referencing the fact that people want the EXACT location. If it didn't say even the zone then I would agree it could become bothersome at one point, but right now it's pretty fine, as it gives you another incentive to explore.

To be a little bit fair, I'm not sure why they stuck medicines under "Tools."

So lame! People generally have a good idea of where all the mobs are because you've quested throughout the map and/or because the maps aren't so large that it's a chore to run around them looking. I hate other players.

To be fair, that hi-potion quest changed from alpha, so I can see why some people might get confused if they had done it before.
