Yep.
This morning, I started a thread looking for some volunteers to join me in doing an exhibition on FFXI gameplay. o.o Was polite and affable to all. No vulgarity. Avoided any and all wording that might be considered biased, set forth test conditions, and inquired if anyone'd wanna join. Basically, the inquiry was for an explanation of what exactly folks liked about the early-levels gameplay experience that made it worth transferring to ARR. Bit farfetched? Aye, considerably. ( >>) Better than standard beta fare, though.
Anyhow, got some replies, got a coupla volunteers for the recording/screenshotting, and abruptly thread got ganked. (O.X ) Dagnabit, Squeenix, you'll pull down a thread with no cursing, finger-pointing, or name-calling, but leave up the LALAFELLS NEED BIGGER RACKS, or "Why ARR will FAIL" #234,019, or "Quit bitching about XI players being too extreme"?
( o.O)> Sometimes I wonder about the community reps' priorities.
^ They probably just want people to stay on task in terms of talking only about 2.0., and not XI, hence the XI threads being nuked into orbit, even if they are positive threads.
It's probably in their best interest to minimize any and all association with FFXI if they want to avoid falling into a niche market again. You can imagine how easy it is for completely uninformed people to assume this is FFXI-2 and immediately dismiss it. I'm sure it's an ongoing issue with the franchise alone due to the unrelated, yet numbered, installments.
I do agree with this. Dredging up any memories of XI isn't really a good idea right now, considering not only the OF stupidity that relates to wanton XI-nostalgia, but also the association between just how much worse 1.0. was, from a commercial and critical standpoint, than XI. Granted, XI wasn't exactly grabbing 10/10's on every game review site and magazine, but the game was well-received as a whole, and to this day, continues to receive positive press in terms of "goddammit, this game just keep chugging away and keeps making a profit!" news.
Should have called it Sundries and be done with it. I had to agree to a certain level that Tools was pretty fkin retarded.
What in the fuck? Is there a wiki right now that tells you were Opo-opos are located, or do you just fucking find them like a normal person, as you do shit? Did you figure you could buy a hi-potion from a store, or would you prefer a little auto-run feature to plant you right in front of the NPC? Maybe they could bring up the menu for you, too. Put the cursor automatically over the hi potion?
Maybe instead of figuring out how to kill Nael, they just tell you what strat to use.
Part of any challenge of anything on the planet is finding out how to do it, dude. Noticing a fucking monkey- because a quest already has you run near them- shouldn't be too hard.
I spam clicked through that hipotion quest. And when I looked at the hint on the quest tracker I realized I missed something key. So you know what I did? I opened the gd journal and saw the NPC seller name in the quest entry.
Fucking people out there. I hate humans sometimes.
Conjurers not getting sprint was pretty damn funny lol.
If someone can't mouse-over the mob, see the zone they are found in, enter said zone and walk for 30 seconds tops down the main path to inevitably find a group of them, I have no words.
What confuses me is that the people crying that they cannot do this are the same ones crying that this game is too EZ-mode compared to XI. You claim its easier than XI because it offers you tools to help you figure out where to go and what to do, yet, when you refuse to or simply are too stupid to use said tools, you then complain that the game isn't intuitive enough, or just outright complain about whatever your sopping vagina is upset over.
It makes no sense, but then again, they make no sense, so I guess it all makes sense in the end.
That conjurer not having sprint quote is relevant to this somehow lol
The usual gripes against "hand holding" with quests just makes me roll my eyes. I can come to think that when it comes to helping others with quests, a lot of us tend to figure people should've done as much on their own as possible before seeking help. That way you avoid situations like, "...oh, I didn't get that cut scene yet." and the like. NPCs knowing where to go for something and telling you isn't exactly breaking the meta, either. Hell, it's them doing their research before passing it off to us surly adventure types. So, if some leatherworker is all, "I want luxurious Opo-Opo pelts! I heard they're around..." I wouldn't really bat an eye, and in fact encourage this. There's still room for more generally vague quests, but even then those'll get wiki'd if they're too vague in their desire.
My bigger concern with questing would be dailies/weeklies, their limitations if present, and a lack of variety to them. Meaningful rewards is another can of worms.
I like the "Yoshi doesn't care about english players" thread lulz.
