Steam issues with POL/FFXI

Hey guys I'm not 100% sure if I'm suppose to be here but I'm having issues with my steam download from Steam. I've been playing the game for about 2 weeks now however I decided to close steam (I havent closed it since I got the game) and when it came to I played FFXI again and I was unable to start POL so I went to verify the games ingurity (a steam fuction) and found that there were 13XX number of files missing so I closed it and relaunched steam and check the intugrity again to find 0 files missing. So with a that done I launched the game again and only to get to the messages/friendslist ect,. and it not updating and POL giving me an error with that. I wouldn't have minded not seeing my friends but when I would go to launch FFXI the game would crash.

Needless to say I've tried a number of issues such as reinstalling steam/POL/FFXI/POL&FFXI/Password combos/ and eventually I was able to see my friends online and and logon to FFXI and somehow I was able to get to the point where I logged on...now when I had finally logged on I couldn't move and all the characters around me had no names and my gil was 1N609N897 and my items were their material forms such as sheet of metal and cloth with names such ":". Shortly after the game crashes.

So I tried reinstalling POL/FFXI again and even updated POL and I every time I log on I get lovely POL-5312 or POL-5311 depending on if I use my SE password or POL password. I've tried to reach out to SE/POL and haven't heard back form them. It's been 3 days.

Any suggestions?

Didn't work, I can log on the game but only for a few minutes and while I'm in there I can't move and veeryone is stripped of their armor and only have weapons like me

That's symptomatic of a messed up install. Try file check, and if that doesn't work you're probably going to have to reinstall.

Hmmm...I've tried that but I've only done it through steam (deleting the local content) do you think I have to complete uninstall everything include *gulp* the updates?

Getting ffxi to work through steam is a huge hassle. In my experience, uninstalling the POL viewer that came with steam and installing the one from the website is a good idea. Additionally, file check a few times through steam. Also for some reason, I couldn't get ffxi to load unless I used windower, so that may help you.

Oh and never launch ffxi through steam either, after you've downloaded the correct POL viewer and finished downloading and checking all the files.

This is how I roll. POL Viewer delivered via Steam is unaltered from SE's own, so just create a shortcut of it from your SteamApps/Common folder to your desktop.

POL Viewer's file check is ass, best off doing a fresh reinstall since it can't tell the difference between a corrupted file, and a file that's older than what it's looking for.

Of course.....the results of Steam fucking up your POL/FFXI client can lead to entertaining trade-offs and possible security exploits.

You have to uninstall FFXI, then go to the FFXI folder and delete whatever didn't get uninstalled. Then you need to reinstall.

It worked guys. I had to uninstall the game from my programs and features then I had to go in the files and delete FFxi's folder. Then as a percaution I uninstalled steam and reinstalled it. So i had to redownload FFXI and it's updates.

I bought a steam copy in the summer just after I moved when I decided to resub to FFXI. I couldn't find my disks back then. Had no issues until they messed up the POL thing recently. Had to launch from there for various reasons and then it screwed up my POL. I was able to login to POL without my token and even got into the game with that lovely chequerboard effect too before it crashed. I did as they suggested but it didn't fix it. In the end I completely uninstalled and reinstalled from the disks I found and patched from BG links.
