FFXIV ARR Benchmark Scores: Now with Character Creation

Depending on your laptops cooling, the 660m overclocks very well. My Asus G75 has been rocking a +135 MHz oc on the core (can't remember mem clock off the tip of my head), which is the max you can get without modifying the vbios. Temperatures on the GPU will max out in the mid 60s. But a G75 has almost excessive cooling capacity, most other laptops probably can't do that reliably.

To be honest, I'd recommend you to get a desktop if possible, getting a gaming laptop that can compare to a mid-high spec desktop can get VERY expensive.

Last I checked its nearly like $2,500 laptop to perform as well as a $1,500ish desktop PC, also laptops aren't going to handle overclocking well considering how compact they are the cooling isn't very good.

I have just upgraded to the latest 314.22 drivers, and my system score just got fucking cut in HALF. how the hell is this possible? see below for the results and specs.

Kinda messed up that I am happy about that. I lost 1k in my score from full screen. Glad to see I'm not the only one who is losing points for no GD reason. Sucks though.

I just reverted back to my previous 314.07 drivers and i got an 8000. I am not overclocking anything in any of these tests either, and for the record i have an SSD drive. I am sticking with these drivers for now lol.

Also one thing to note, there was MAJOR artifacting with my setup when i ran both new driver tests. All temperatures are in the 32 C range. After I reverted back, everything is perfect.

I'm running with the latest 314.22 drivers and didn't see any difference in score compared to 314.07, 306.97 ones do increase your score by 400-500 though, I don't know why.

Also, make sure you don't do anything while the benchmark is running, it messes your score big time.

I had a similar problem with Nvidia and Windows8. Whats your motherboard? Is it certified Win8?

You can check my prior posts, here's another update. I had some free time this evening, made a system image, and rolled back to Win7. My setup scored 5000 with FX-8120 @ 3.8Ghz, 16GB RAM 9CL @ 1600mhz, GTX 570. That was on Max. I could barely get 2500 on Win8. My mobo is Asus M5A99x Evo R1 which is *not officially* Win8 compatible, which most things have worked thus far.

Played Planetside 2 earlier at max settings and got like 17FPS in combat, 40-45 outside combat.

So, have an HD7970 coming Tuesday .. should I take the FFXIV benchmark as a sign to stick with Win7, see if the Radeon solves my Win8 problem, 'upgrade' the mobo to a Win8 compatible Siamese twin of my current one ... such a pain.

Back to Funk, Win8 has weird, stupid, painful, and annoying issues with Nvidia. When I first upgraded, the drivers would not let me reach the sign-in page after rebooting. Boots fine, but I get a black screen. Lots of info out there with others having the same grief. After a few boots and giving Windows 10 minutes to start on a SSD, I could finally get to sign on, and the trouble vanishes.

I can't speak to the 6-series, but I'm blaming my mobo and OS incompatibility for now.

There's no such thing as "motherboard incompatibility with OS"

Your problem was most likely some driver messing arround, if everything worked fine under windows 7 you don't have to change any hardware to fix it

You were right. I did a clean Win8 install this morning, but this time, instead of dropping drivers to my 1TB WD Caviar Black, I just kept drivers on my 90GB SSD which Windows is installed too. Whether or not the reload of Windows did the trick, here are my final results:

Upgraded my rig a bit in anticipation. Biggest improvement was going from a GTX580 to a GTX680 and OCing my CPU to 4.4GHz.

3770k, 670 Power Edition Stock
Probably going to grab a 770 if they are reasonably priced. Can't play games below 40 FPS.

I'd recommend going SLI with a second 670 if you're hoping to get decent FPS at 1440p.

A 770 seems like it'll be a rebranded 680 looking at the information that's out so far, so you'll be getting 5%-10% more performance, IMO if you want to upgrade get a titan or a 780, or wait for AMD to see if they're releasing Vulcan Islands soon.

I originally wanted a 780, but it looks like it will be ridiculously overpriced. The 770 ,imo, should be at least 10-15% faster than the 680. AND I am assuming GPU boost 2.0 will be supported by the 700 series. The combo of GPUB 2.0 and base increase of performance should net a decent increase in overall performance. Just me speculating though.

AMD's 8000 series is rumored to be a rebrand as well. I doubt we will see the 8xx series before Computech 2014.

I went ahead n got myself a 670 (and overclocked the hell out of it), a bit before 700 series would be out, but then again i would of made the same choice anyway, as the "real performers" will be the 800 nvidia series.
I probably should have waited a bit longer, for the 700's to come out to get a cheaper 670 just to tide myself over, but the 5870 I had with 1GB VRam was choking at 2560x1440 ;/

Vulcan(Volcanic?) Islands are the 9xxx Series, they're supposed to come out late this year, 20nm with 4096SP for the 9970, It's all rumors though.

8xxx series are OEM only iirc, like Nvidia's 3xx.

I also have an overclocked 670, came from a 5870 too, big improvement! I usually upgrade when a new architecture is released and tend to avoid rebrands/die shrinks because they barely increase performance.

My GT750 laptop and HD 7950 on desktop handle this game quite well, I see no reason to upgrade.
