Did some more benchmarking on the 760. It boosted to 1215 and ran at 60-67% power (being held back by an older CPU). I also found that the benchmark would score 100-200 points better the first time after a reboot, but falling off if run a second time. Not trying to read too much in to that because wonky is as wonky does.

Here's my laptop with a 660m. Benchmark reported still using integrated graphics but this was definitely the nvidia card. I'd guess this is decently playable at max, but would benefit greatly from turning things down a little.

I used that tool you mentioned and put the GPU clock to 906 put the benchmark up to 5230. temp was 61c does this mean I can keep pushing that GPU clock up? or is there more to damaging it then just high temp?

You can probably overclock it a little bit, but i would recommend getting a laptop cooling pad since your laptop most likely won't dissipate heat that well compared the chip being on discrete graphics card.

the GPU and CPU each have an internal fan. what do you think a safe range is?

I gotta be honest, himinbjorg, for what gains you'll get with a modest overclock you risk a lot of damage to other components inside the laptop. Even though the card could technically handle it, the rest of the laptop may not be well suited to deal with that extra heat. With a score in the 5k range, the game is going to be perfectly playable and look fantastic. Unless you are in a position that you can replace the laptop if something goes wrong, I'd say you are in very good shape and should enjoy what you have.

even with fans, its not really having much place to blow the heat out anywhere. You can use a program like hwinfo32 (or 64 for 64bit) sensor mode to see what temps your overall laptop is running. (not just the cpu/video card). You would want to see how how the motherboard and other parts run.

Looks like a laptop has the same limits as a desktop PC< so anything under 80C is fine/non damaging. Going above 80C can possibly cause damage prolonged running, any way above... well it may melt~

nothing went above 70c on that program, but it is showing my GPU memory clock running at 1203.4 but evga says its 2404 which is whats set in NVIDIA control.

3770k MSI 780 Gaming ( OC is +115 Core, +485 Memory. I have not fiddle with OC settings to see if I can go higher yet.)
I wouldn't RMA the card, it's perfectly fine. What you're lacking is CPU overclock, the bench likes CPU OC a lot, more than GPU I would say, people with 11k+ scores are most likely running their CPUs at the 4.8-5.2 range, I know I get 300~ points only by increasing my CPU to 4.7 from 4.5 (3570k), so get your CPU to 4.8+ and you'll be over 11k easily.

Its probably "set" to 2404, but when a video card is barely used/not in use it drops in half to save power/reduce heat. Cpu's do the same thing. Wouldn't read too much into it, unless its still going 1204 while playing a game.

If it is 2 possible things.
1.It went over its heat threshold and was down clocked
    2.Its defective
    (usually #1)

After checking some other benchmarks I'm thinking of doing 770 SLI instead of a single 780. All you guys with 770 SLI have you noticed any microstutter? And is it enough power for 120fps?

    Firstly no SLI supported yet.
Secondly unless you are running a multi-monitor set up, wanting SLI for 120fps on FFXIV is kinda silly =/, what exactly do you need 120 fps for exactly?

I believe I could see the difference of going beyond 60 FPS. I kinda wish I had gone for 120+ hz monitor over 1440p. People seem to chalk up 120hz to only being viable for FPS shooters, but I like smooth motion in every game I play. 60 FPS seems very blocky to me still.

Remember in the end of the day it a prerendered benchmark. And since FFXIV is a mmorpg actual in game performance is going to be more likely CPU bound so you're probably going to need make sure the heat being generated from your GPU isn't going to affect the CPU's ability to turbo to 3.2-3.4GHz. One more thing did you really pay 2000 for that laptop because if you did you should probably see if you can return it, because I'm looking at newegg and seeing a few laptops with GTX 780ms in them for around 2000 as well. And it is roughly 30% more powerful than a 770m.

I agree, when looking at details on walls and ground in mmos while moving at 60hz it's all blurry and gives me headaches sometimes. I know it's hardly noticable but its worth the investment for me considering how often I play games, I hvnt looked at any 1440p monitors yet though, do they look much better than 1080?

I know the benchmark doesn't support SLI but they were planning on having SLI for launch right? And idk how often microstuttering occurs or if it is just the luck of the draw with what cards you get. Do different games have different results with microstuttering?

Yup for sure, this is why they put out different profiles for different games for Xfire and SLI.

    blocky...?

If a game looks blocky, either the graphic settings are low, or the game quality is just low. Getting a video card to run the game at 120fps will just make "motion" smoother not reduce... blockyness. (sounds more like some low res game upscalled to match 1440p which is causing "blockyness").

A game with actual 1440p mode should be reducing "block" sizes to where there much less noticeable (unless you have a very large screen) actually.

I'm pretty sure blocky was the wrong word to have used. The entire post was about smooth motion, guessing he ment that.

Yeah, just the first adjective to pop into mind. Wrong one I suppose. How about blurry.
