Has anyone run the benchmark using the NVIDA GTX 780M yet? If so what kinda score did you get / average FPS. I tried searching all the post but didn't get hit so wasn't sure if I didn't have the right keyword w/o pulling all the desktop 780s.

Did you let it run in the background for any portion of it (alt-tab, or otherwise)? That seems to shoot scores up.

No I haven't Raldo. Although I have oc my gpu and cpu I don't think my score should be so substantially different from people with similar rigs.

Your score seems about right to me. I haven't seen anyone with your cpu or gpu, but both are quite old. AMD cpus aren't going to score as high as intel and the 480 is comparable with the 560 ti.

When my AMD 6x 3.2ghz CPU and Radeon 7870 2GB was only getting me 6400, I decided to start testing and found a few things.

Everything at stock, I got 6400. I OC'd my cpu to 3.7ghz and the score did not change at all. Even OCing my FSB and RAM only got me just past 6500. OC'd my graphics card and my scores started shooting up with a final score of 8000 at the highest GPU overclock I could manage so it seems the benchmark is far more limited by your GPU than your CPU.

During testing, I've noticed a few things that can also skew results. For example, when I ran the test in Windowed mode at stock rate, my score increased from 6400 to 6800 right away. I think the reason for this difference is that FXAA isn't working properly in windowed or borderless windowed modes so your test scores will be higher than a full screen test. Also, if you alt+tab while a full screen test is running, your score will be inflated even further. At the end of the first scene and I reopened the test, I was already at 7000 points so it seems if the game doesn't have to draw anything on screen, then it doesn't spend the resources to do so. Please take results from other people with a grain of salt because of this. If you post results, make sure you specify if you ran the test in full screen mode, did any alt+tabbing, etc so everyone knows what to expect.

It's fairly easy to spot someone doing the alt-tab trick though, be it voluntarily or involuntarily, it really shoots the score way too much, like scoring 18k which no single GPU is capable of with a 660 or stuff like that.

I just watched that ASUS video, along with adjusting some settings for my overclock.

I'm now running at 4.5GHz with voltage at 1.325V at a max temp of 80C. Running AIDA64 stress test right now and it's been running for 10 minutes with no issues. I'll probably push more toward 4.7GHz once my new fan adapters arrive. (Motherboard only has 3 fan headers, the case has 7 lol) I think my serious issue was that LLC was on auto. I'll post the settings I used once this stress test is done so you can see if I fucked anything up or am putting myself at risk for something.

I just had a couple more questions:

    1) Do you guys leave Hyperthreading on or off?
    2) When my CPU is idle, the frequency drops to 1.6GHz, but under any kind of load is when it jumps up to 4.5GHz. Is that normal? Should it always be at 4.5GHz?

*EDIT* aaaaaaand I load up Prime95 for 3 seconds and it bluescreens Q_Q. I don't know what to think now.

There is a setting in the ASUS bios that you have enabled that is ramping your CPU up/down on and off load, its probably better to have it on (longevity) but personally i have it off. I cant remember what its called though ><

For 2, yes that's perfectly normal, and you should see the same with the voltage.

    I don't know anymore. Prime95 and IBT bluescreen me if I run at 1.325V @ 4.5GHz. AIDA64 didn't. I don't want to go above 1.325V

Sounds like you just got a dud if you're only overclocking the CPU, OCing an Ivy/Haswell has no mistery,

My 3570k takes 1.29 to run at 4.5 fully stable which is already on the meh side, luckily it doesn't get too hot.

please post all the settings you have in bios.. dont get frustrated, it can take a few hours to get the right settings... also... about # 2

The are power saving features that both Intel has (EIST) enhanced intel speedstep and your motherboard has(EPU)..... basically... your OS can tell your CPU to downclock (EIST) when not needed. and so can your motherboard (EPU) EPU is like Asus' own version of Intel's EIST

    settings I use for overclocking

EPU Power Saving Mode (Disabled) (Motherboard wont downclock)
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (Enabled) (OS/Intel will downclock when idle)

this should work better for overclock.... but still downclock cpu when its idle... can try both disabled and put OS power to max performance and it will run full speed all the time .... but dont worry about it downclocking

also... what is your exact motherboard?

Asus boards have this... a TPU and a EPU switch

    [IMG][/IMG]

check your motherboard manual and make sure these are both set to OFF

Below are the 4.5GHz settings that didn't work, that I think are totally acceptable settings.
    Spoiler: show

My board doesn't have a TPU switch, but it does have an EPU switch, and it's set to "off" already.

May or may not be playing a part in this, but I just noticed that your RAM is running at 1.6v, which is higher than the recommended limit of 1.5v for IB/SB CPUs.

The XMP set it to 1.6. That was the recommended voltage from the manufacturer as well.

Im using this CPU cooler - Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

During load on the Benchmark at maximum it only got to 70c at peak.

Should i be concerned about any of my Voltage or Temp settings? I got the thing to 4.8Ghz with a 1.415V setting. Ran windows fine and the benchmark etc. During Prime95 the peak Temp was getting to 91c/92c so i took the 4.8Ghz overclock off. Also try 1.375 Izzy see if it makes a diff? Maybe just unlucky with your particular CPU

And I'm not trying to sound like an internet jerk, but maybe it'd be useful to start a separate thread for overclocking help?
