The difference they're ignoring in this "We're just doing what Steam does" model is that Steam's offline mode means you can go so long between logins that a lot of people don't know what the actual limitations on it are. Some people say it's two weeks, some a month, others have it on laptops that haven't been online in half a year to a full year.

You don't know the price of games. You don't know if they'll do sales. HDD capacity is pretty much completely fucking irrelevent, didn't they say 500 GB is the base amount anyway? That's plenty. I would definitely like to see more console games (both PS and Xbox) adopting dedicated servers though. Iirc there was a couple of 360 games that used them, would be nice to see them take off.

A company spokesperson confirmed to Kotaku that Microsoft's own first-party Xbox One games will cost $59,99, the same price top Xbox 360 games have.

Its 500 GB but they already said the OS of Xone takes up a lot of space. Plus full game downloads take up a lot of space on their own. Who knows if you can change the hard drive so I wouldn't say it isnt irrelevant.

When is the last time the had a sell on live for any newer released games?

After the announcement that the Xbox One will only work in some countries around the world at launch, Microsoft has also added that the Xbox One will only work in 21 states in the US at launch.

Due to the way Microsoft has handled the Xbox One console policies, games can not be activated if you live in an unsupported region. This also appears to be true within the US where only certain states will be able to enjoy the Xbox One at launch. We spoke with a Microsoft representative about this decision.

“The states that will not be able to use the Xbox One have been determined by Microsoft to not be prime locations to launch the system; therefore, they will not be supported at launch,” said the representative, “However, all states will be able to use the Xbox One by the year 2015. This date is not final.”

We asked the representative why some states were chosen over others to which she replied, “Some factors Microsoft put into consideration included demand, the amount of complaints received from each state, internet quality, obesity rates, amount of Xbox Live users, quality of life and more. It was well thought out research and we stand by our decision to launch with only 21 states.”

“If you live in one of the states that unfortunately will not receive Xbox One support at launch, here are a few suggestions on what you can do,” said the representative, “You can relocate to a state that has Xbox One support, you can purchase an Xbox 360 which has no location restrictions, or you can wait patiently until support arrives at your state by 2015 or later.”

They said you can't change the hdd. That E3 Q&A link up above though says you can use external hdds, but I wouldn't be surprised they need to be specific Juan peripheral HDDs.

@Kiarax: Everything in your rebuttal has pretty much been taken care of by other people but based on what we've seen from them thus far, I highly doubt they're going to fully adopt the Steam model outside of just "YAY DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION GAIZ".

It'll never happen. People pay $60 for copies of anything new, physical or digital. The whole "digital distribution will lower the cost of games" thing is a total myth, they'll stay right where they are and the companies responsible for putting them out will rake in the extra profits.

It's one of those perfect world scenarios. But no for-profit business would ever use that kind of leeway to cut their own profits, knowing that if they change nothing, consumers will still keep paying at the current price.

You're a real sucker if you really buy into some BS story about MS scheming for the greater good of consumers lol Even if you choose to ignore the repeated warning signs recently that MS doesn't give a fuck about your loyal fanboyism, this goes against all corporate practice in the modern era.

Well i'm loving the thread and all the sony shitheads in full rage mode about ppl that say they want to buy the Juan and actually like what they see. Why they so mad with their superior machine? move along to your thread and jerk each other off there IMO. the rage is so bad i feel like i'm getting spittle on me through the screen.

Juan is looking better and better for ME the more details come out. All the "terrible" cons like always on, 24hr auth, no used games (boo hoo), drm, doesnt effect me nor does it bother me. And the recent news about family and friends sharing, this story about steam-ish behaviour, and all the other stuff already known appeals to me quite a bit (snap in, fast game switching with the lobby stuff, twitch and skype integration, sat box capabilities, smartglass, and even kinect2 although im hoping they did a better job with 2 then 1 and have some really neat game functionality.

that being said, the PR game has clearly been lost by MS, their first announcement and e3 undoubtedly could have been far far better and the message was twisted and lost especially to the hardcore gamers out there like most of us here. I still have my concerns, if their auth servers get slammed or go down or some how get borked then ya Juan is going to see things happen like what happened with the PS3 a while back with that nasty outage, and maybe even worse. Here's hoping that MS learns from that and has some serious work behind their infrastructure to ensure something like that doesn't happen.
