For all the PC master race people: Can anyone seriously put a tower together that has better/comparable specs to a PS4 for the same price?

If I could put a PC together that ran all of the next-gen titles at the same pace as a console, I'd switch in a heart beat. I'm just not willing to invest $1,000 into a machine when I could buy a PS4, 40 inch LCD, and 2 damn games for the same price.

This is a little tidbit I feel people are over looking in the praise. Almost every game they showed required the always on stuff, or used it in some way. I think what this means is you'll either see devs not utilizing it (meaning it won't be worthwhile like it once was) or you're going to have certain games just require an internet connection. A few are like this already on PS4 like The Division and potentially Titanfall down the road.

Building a machine that runs cross-plat games only as good as a console can run one is a poor investment that throws away the advantages of PC gaming, so off the top of my head I'm going to say 'no.'

Also there is the variable that cross-platform games are often poorly optimized on the PC port so you'd need specs even stronger than what consoles over to compensate for the shit code large publishers squirt out onto Steam/Origin/UPlay.

I don't believe you can currently put together something with the same specs for the same price, I'm pretty certain that Sony is taking a loss on the hardware to get it in people's homes

The Xbox One 'cloud' is just a large grid of dedicated servers set up for devs to use, nothing more. It's not going to magically make your games run 60fps. It'll just let you offload calculations for crap not necessary during realtime gameplay, like handling ghost/friend data in racing games for example.

You're reading too much into the 'processing power from the cloud' statement, which clearly MS PR wants you to do.

'Powerful' in the context of the cloud, means XBL, not the games themselves. Developers were never going to make API calls to remote servers before rendering frames. It's the SimCity bullshit all over again. The cloud will let developers gather more metrics about how people play games or otherwise use the XB1, not make the XB1 version of Madden more realistic or immersive. The cloud was probably going to be just another vector for publishers to push shit onto your dashboard, nothing more. You won't miss its constant presence when your internet putters out.

Good videocards cost 50% more than consoles, so no. But it's still worth it.
