Never attribute to malace that which can adequately be explained by stupidity.

entirely possible this is bullshit, but if it's true losing the "family sharing" isn't that big a deal
    http://pastebin.com/TE1MWES2
First is family sharing, this feature is near and dear to me and I truly felt it would have helped the industry grow and make both gamers and developers happy. The premise is simple and elegant, when you buy your games for Xbox One, you can set any of them to be part of your shared library. Anyone who you deem to be family had access to these games regardless of where they are in the world. There was never any catch to that, they didn't have to share the same billing address or physical address it could be anyone. When your family member accesses any of your games, they're placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour. This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to. When the time limit was up they would automatically be prompted to the Marketplace so that they may order it if liked the game. We were toying around with a limit on the number of times members could access the shared game (as to discourage gamers from simply beating the game by doing multiple playthroughs). but we had not settled on an appropriate way of handling it. One thing we knew is that we wanted the experience to be seamless for both the person sharing and the family member benefiting. There weren't many models of this system already in the wild other than Sony's horrendous game sharing implementation, but it was clear their approach (if one could call it that) was not the way to go. Developers complained about the lost sales and gamers complained about overbearing DRM that punished those who didn't share that implemented by publishers to quell gamers from taking advantage of a poorly thought out system. We wanted our family sharing plan to be something that was talked about and genuinely enjoyed by the masses as a way of inciting gamers to try new games.

Even if it's not true, I doubt publishers were pleased with the idea of being able to abuse the family sharing with your personal friends so you can all take turns downloading and beating their $60 single-player games off one purchase, which would be easier than having to swap a physical disc about.

Same issue with PS3's game-sharing, although that was a little more abused since 5 systems could be playing the same content at once.

lol...they had made it sound like the 10-person sharing was everyone had access to the full game whenever they wanted as long as they weren't all trying to play it at the same time.

Every one of these arguments is based on one completely unjustified assumption. That these policies would decrease prices of the games. It's the hollow promise of a generation. And now we are to blame for something that never existed, and wasn't going to exist.

Yeah, i firmly believe now that they never had any intention of trying to lower the prices on games.

So.... how will the whole cloud computing shit work? Certain games will require an internet connection to be playable?

Pretty much. Parts of the game would be offloaded onto dedicated servers that would specifically handle those operations and return the results to the client. What those parts and results are is up to the the developer.

Assuming they're not full of shit and really doing all the operations/computations on the client. *cough SimCity cough*

It would appear that that's kind of in the hands of the developers now in terms of how much they want to rely on it. I'll acknowledge that this is probably the main thing that can be chalked up as an actual loss caused by the turnabout.

99% marketing gimmick with no real benefit to single-player games. If it was really some magical processing boost or seamless way to upgrade games, developers would be going crazy over it and would have showed off more than a pointless ghost recording or funny adaptive AI feature. Apparently neither of these revolutionary features could be accomplished without "the power of the cloud"

Thats not too bad then if thats the case. Basically the same concept as the N64 and that red expansion pack shit that some games needed.

If you believe CBOAT this was always bullshit and the 'cloud computing' amounted to the 24 hour checkin on a valid license. #praroleofficer

I think i would of liked to see Microsoft stick to their guns and see it though. But I guess Microsoft was too scared and blinked.

What I find amusing is that MS completely going back on the DRM crap makes em almost look worse, since they were spewing shit this entire time about how the console was built from the ground up to be this way, ect.. ect... and now it only requires a patch. Which they are ironically called a "day one patch" lol
