they never actually said it meant dedicated servers for games though, just that they were adding that many
Couldnt the severs just be for their cloud?
I recall summertime bringing up that they were likely just virtual servers and not actual physical ones, but I don't even know what a virtual server is
lots of virtual servers can run on one badass server, basically.
So if you divvy up the one badass physical sever into more virtual ones than it previously had, is there an actual net gain?
Yeah theres a lot of gain, like redundancy, and virtual servers can be backed up and re-imaged with like a "snapshot". I see what you mean and I know what you're asking but without going down a rabbit hole of tech shit I"m not even that familiar with, for all intents and purposes a virtual server really is no different than adding another physical server.
it means that they can bring up servers and shutdown servers dynamically based on resources needed. when they say cloud computing, this (and the 24 hour check-in) is what they meant.
Also hopefully means they'll never need to shut down a game's multiplayer access since it's all dynamic. No one playing on dead game? Doesn't take up any server resources until someone requires a matchmaker/lobby.
Is CoD confirmed to have dedicated servers for matchmaking? I know they said that for halo and titanfall, but I watched the segment from E3 and i don't think it was mentioned for CoD.

lolThe Halo series' current Reclaimer Trilogy is now a "saga," a Microsoft representative confirmed with GameSpot during E3.
"While we originally said trilogy, we've actually expanded this to more of a saga, so we don't want to limit the Reclaimer story within a trilogy," the representative explained. The Reclaimer Trilogy was originally set to span from 2012's Halo 4 through the eventual Halo 6.
Xbox head Don Mattrick recently referred to the franchise's E3 showing as "Halo 5." Speaking with GameSpot, Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer declined to say whether the next Halo game will be a fully fledged sequel or a spinoff in the vein of Halo: Reach.
"It is the next Halo game that we are working on," Spencer told GameSpot. "We will talk more about actually the story arc in the game and how it plays out; we've got more time to talk about that." Whether the next game is Halo 5 or something else, Spencer did note that it will be "a legitimate version of Halo."
Halo has a story arc?
I wonder if this meant someone could've eventually hacked the juan to simulate offline mode similar to what happened to Sim City V.
Halo: the only game series ever to have "finished the fight", only to restart it again 10 more times.
What a joke, talk about milking a franchise.
