I discussed the reasons for me not wanting to own a kinect and how I really don't see how its going to benefit or add anything to the gaming experience. Yet, instead of actually discussing that, you just make a lame PS4 attack.

When I go to the Microsoft store in my area, I always see kids playing the Fruit Ninja and the dance games. I can see the Kinect would be a hit for those families.

So far all the Kinect is all promise and no results. I'm very skeptical that the Kinect 2.0 will really add anything to gaming. They did this with the Kinect 1.0. Made all these claims and promises as to what it will do for gaming and it basically did nothing and just became a joke.

So in your opinion, Dance Central has changed gaming? Because what was really my point about the Kinect. It was marketed as something that would change and offer a unique experience for gaming.

In my opinion, it hasn't. Can it? Sure, better tech always means more things are possible. I just don't see it yet and no one has really been able to offer anything that is possible with the kinect that is "unique and different experience"

Children don't know what children want. Buy a kid a kinect and a kinect game, week later, they are fucking fed up with that shit. Buy em a new kinect game. Rinse and repeat indefinitely. This is how I see this scenario working out for any parent getting shit from their kids. It's irrelevant if someone here claims you were or weren't a stupid kid for wanting X when you were 8. We all know we were retarded little pricks at that age. Although some of us speak with the wisdom of growing up being denied these things for the exact reason I have used in my example. Just don't forget you were that snot nosed brat at that age too, maybe not to such an extreme, but nevertheless.

As an adult consumer purchasing these things for children, I wouldn't so willingly/happily buy into it, and would try to deny it to my hypothetical child. From a children's point of view I can see how it looks so cool, new, fresh, and need got.

But I'm an adult now, would not buy.

Don't get hung up on just one example. Kinect Sports sold 6 million. The relevant question is 'what did the Kinect change?'

It broadened the audience for gaming consoles, doing exactly what the Kinect was born to do. Just because it offers you and me nothing exciting doesn't mean it hasn't yielded a positive result for Microsoft. 24 million sensors sold proves its success and justifies its existence into the next generation, despite what little it has to offer pre-Kinect gaming fans. It has shaped the direction of Microsoft's entire console business, so yeah that's a pretty big change. They may yet regret this decision post-launch but it's both factually wrong to say it provided no results and ignorant to think stupidity alone is driving its sales. "they like something I don't like therefore they're dumb," is the essence of shit fanboy posting.

I understand the point Jornna was trying to make even if he went about wording it poorly. The Kinect was successful. I don't think Jornna is doubting that it was. He's doubting the impact it had in changing the scope of gaming. Which to a point I agree. It was because I had unrealistic standards. Like I want to do a barrel roll on Mass Effect 3 and a jump kick at the end, what do you mean that doesn't work? Fuck this stupid thing.

Kinect, Eyetoy, PS Move are novelties as far as I am concerned but I do acknowledge they have changed how gaming works. When the initial release was being discussed I think people were expecting that this stuff would change how we play games in terms of wholesale interactiveness. The opportunities were there(seriously who wouldn't want to try a Kinect version of Katamari?) But again, unrealistic expectations and such.

The issue is that most of the games were novelty acts that catered to a younger audience. For every adult themed game you had 4 versions of Just Dance or Glee thrown your way. MS was very intelligent in making the Kinect exceptionally kid friendly. Whether that was by design or as a result of established franchises purposely not being offered up I don't know. Why risk the black eye of having sub par Kinect ports of your games when you don't have to type of deal. It is a new medium for the genre. But it's a niche market that the peripheral caters to. I may not like it but I certainly wouldn't begrudge someone who does.

Everytime we go to Best Buy, maybe 10 times a year (with 6 of those times all being in December) my daughter of course gravitates to the games. She usually plays the kinect game they have there if no one else is, and nearly always tells me it was 'alright, but I don't ever really want to play it after we leave'. She is 9. I guess I am lucky. Never once has she expressed interest in a Kinect outside of having one right there in front of her in store.

In other news, my brother in law has an annoying shit for stepson, he is 8, and pestered the shit out of them for a Kinect and they got one. They stopped playing it after a month.
