Good thing I know nothing of MS.
Good thing I know nothing of MS.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft...v-journey.aspxToday, Microsoft and Ericsson announced a definitive agreement for Ericsson to acquire Mediaroom, the number one IPTV platform deployed by TV operators around the world. This acquisition is mutually beneficial and strategically aligned for both parties. Ericsson will continue to invest in the growth and success of Mediaroom to the benefit of customers, employees, and the industry. It allows Microsoft to commit 100 percent of its focus on consumer TV strategy with Xbox.
We are proud of the world-class engineering and business achievements within Mediaroom. They have a rich history of driving innovation in IPTV. As early pioneers, they built the infrastructure to stream video on limited bandwidth, and today they enable multiscreen entertainment experiences for pay TV subscribers. Mediaroom has contributed to the evolution of TV and powers 22 million set-top boxes today in 11 million subscriber households.
With the sale of Mediaroom, Microsoft is dedicating all TV resources to Xbox in a continued mission to make it the premium entertainment service that delivers all the games and entertainment consumers want – whether on a console, phone, PC or tablet. And with 76 million Xbox 360 consoles around the world with 46 million Xbox LIVE members, it is a mission that gets us out of bed in the morning.
It is not a mission that we can achieve alone. We want to partner with the industry to deliver the next wave of innovation in games and consumer entertainment. We will partner with content creators, studios, labels, networks, content aggregators, operators and distributors to make this happen. We believe the future of home entertainment is one where TV becomes more simple, tailored and intelligent. We believe the best is yet to come for this industry.
Our vision and energy for the future of entertainment is more focused than ever. Stay tuned.

So the 720 is a $500 cable box.
I just laugh at the inferior "on-demand" TV/Movie services that are out there. Never even heard of this Mediaroom crap. I wonder if M$ has plans to expand their Live sub plans to milk more from these suckers to include access to their coveted multimedia services lol
They should just start advertising the new device and a multi-media platform that can sometimes play video games.
You will only be able to use the TV service if you have Internet acess lol.
Gonna laugh when all this always online stuff proves to be false.
Nah, its the Sony faggots in here that took that douche at his word. I said both on here and on FB that during my 11 years at MS I have been in many a rooms and/or meetings when statements like that were made and that I doubted the validity of his statements, but because he posted it on twitter and was an employee it was the gospel. Lot of people in here are on my FB and we all had this very discussion a week ago. Have to remember who you are dealing with, lol. Sony trolls dont have much to go on, so they reach like this from time to time. Remember the Move vs Kinect thread/discussion from about 4 years ago? It was declared a victory as a Wii knock-off prototype.
I have a PS3 for all my Atlus/NIS and SMT titles, so I play it down the middle as best I can. Funny shit though, BK.
There's no reason for them to not dispel the rumor as soon as they appeared though. Just look at Apple. Whenever there are news that aren't true coming out, they'll always have an insider saying "nope" and that would have been it.
Once again this argument has been rehashed like 5 times in this thread alone. The rumors have been around forever. I honestly don't think MS is that stupid but you know what? Stupider shit has happened before.
The main reason this is so big atm is because the dude was being a goddamn righteous cunt about it.
bingo. and we can either let the thread die while MS keeps delaying their announcement, or we can discuss the current rumors and drama that MS hasn't denied at all. Either they're terrible at PR, and are just letting it spin out of control, or there is at least some degree of truth to it, idk. Nothing is gospel til it is announced, but when something has been rumored/reported from multiple sources, and had a furious explosion of twitter ranting, I don't think it's particularly unreasonable to discuss it as at least being a possibility.
lol
I always thought it was MS doesn't comment on rumors or speculations
And there isn't much discussion going on, it's mostly rehashes of lolololol ms so bad drm rabble rabble rabble I'm buying ps4 no always online rabble rabble when nothing has been even remotely close to confirmed. You're going off rumor from neckbeards for the most part.
there's a certain point where not commenting on rumors is worse than commenting on them. if MS just put out a statement that their next system would not require a connection it would curtail all the rumors, and it's not like it would spoil the reveal. we all know another console is coming. admittedly I'm not a PR expert, but allowing your fanbase to stew in negativity about a bunch of patently false things about your system can't possibly be good for business, and pushing back your official announcement sends a mixed message at best. I'm sure there's people out there who are convinced that MS is scrambling to remove the always on before the reveal so people don't hate them (which is ridiculous). As I've said before, I'm certainly not convinced it will be always on, and I certainly hope it isn't. but if it is, or if it blocks used games, or worse does both, than I will certainly not put much priority on picking it up. I still think that it would be incredibly naive of them to release such a restricted console when they know the ps4 isn't so I'm hoping that most of the rumors are stemming from like, possible design decisions/brainstorming, or something, because it seems way too much of a way to shoot themselves in the foot. The only possible way I can see them proceeding with it is if the restrictions have enabled them to get some major exclusives or something.
Plus Microsoft felt the need to apologize for the twitter messages but chose to conveniently ignore the actual rumors...
Hasn't this been leaked from several sources over time? And from what I hear, Paul Thurrott is usually a reliable source, not exactly a "neckbeard" (although I'm going off of what others have said, so I could be mistaken).
I mean, not commenting on rumors and speculation in an official capacity is one thing, but "leaking" some positive information that it won't actually be a requirement to balance out these rumors sounds like it would be a good idea, and as far as I know there haven't really been any positive leaks at all. When you hear it from a usually reliable source (at least one, I guess?) rather than them having contradicting news, it's harder to just ignore.
I mean, if it happens it happens, and if it doesn't it doesn't. We'll have a much better idea after the official unveil, and some time to get used to the idea either way. But if it is true? Yeah.
I'd just like to say I have only purchased the xbox since it's inception. I had a ps2, but it was a gift. I still bought any title that was offered for both platforms for the xbox. I personally prefer xbox's controller over ps. I do not regret my 360 purchase at all. I really hope these rumors are just that, rumors. I don't plan on purchasing either system out the gate anyways as I'm broke. I'm still purchasing games from 2+ years ago that I haven't played.
And for the record, I'm anti neck beard!
I'll go for whichever console is easier to hack/jailbreak. This most recent generation was definitely the 360, so I barely used my PS3.
I love how ppl are still riding the Sony fanboy train saying only they push the rumors as true, when not a single source has denied it and multiple sources have voluntarily confirmed it.
Ok gonna laugh when it turns out to be true
My entire thing is that if the rumors were indeed false, put out a fucking statement stating that the rumors are false ASAP. Not stating anything and futhermore pushing back the event to May does not look good when you're trying to dispel a rumor.
This is 2013, it's not hard to do PR these days. Twitter/Facebook/Google News literally does it for you.
