There was some story that popped up a few days ago in regards to investors in the company basically telling them to dump almost all of their consumer products and focus on corporate concerns.

I cant imagine them dumping a new console that they invested so much into with out a large enough return.
Target is offering a $50 Gift Card when you buy an Xbox One this week.
This isn't regarding the amazon Microsoft stuff but. Why the hell can you not send voice messages. This just. What.
Pretty sure the sales figures so far are still considered a success in Microsoft's eyes.
Can't gauge a console on the first few months either way, case in point, PS3.
That's irrelevant to the point I was making.
Are they not in the black with the 360? Xbox one is too new to call it a failure, no matter how much neckbeards say otherwise.
No one is calling it a failure, but the sales are a concern for them when they are getting outsold 2 to 1. Even Tomb Raider outside 2 to 1 on PS4. It can impact if publishers will bring games to their system and can also impact exclusives, IE Titanfall 2 likely wont be an exclusive to them if there is a bigger audience on ps4.
And as far as i know, Xbox has always been losing them money.
The point is, if THEIR expectations aren't being met, they have no obligation to continue sinking money into it.
Regardless of how retarded their expectations are in the first place.
Saying stuff like they won't drop Xbox because they haven't made a large enough return yet is silly because that's pretty much the exact reason they would drop it in the first place.
But they've been in the black with 360, and its too early to say they won't be as successful with the Juan. We can cite sales of 2 to 1 for ps4 all we want, its irrelevant if they're still profiting long term, or at least trending internally to doing so in the foreseeable future.
And again, if it's not doing as well as THEY expected it too, they have every reason to dump it. You can say it's too early to tell, 360 did well etc. It doesn't matter. If they were expecting it to sell 10 million units in the first month and it didn't, then they have their reason to dump the brand.
Whether or not that expectation was realistic or not is irrelevant. Considering how terrible of a concept the system originally was I can only imagine their expectations for how well it would do within the first couple months were equally unreasonable.
yeah but... they're not. short of titanfall or halo 2 anni pushing a shitload of consoles their projections are probably pretty terrible
EDIT: nvm, silly thing to say.
In regards to the Xbox, Microsoft's investors have been pushing them to sell off the Xbox brand and let it be it's own company for some number of years. MS really doesn't make much off of the entire division, something like 75+% of their profits come from Windows and Office.
It's pretty unlikely they ever would though, Xbox might not make them a ton of money but it's helped them diversify and arguably boosted sales in other areas of their portfolio of products.

http://news.xbox.com/2014/02/xbox-one-preview-update
The team is working hard to deliver some exciting updates in March that will make Xbox One even better. But in order to ensure our customers have the best experience on Xbox One and Xbox Live, we need the help of our passionate community.
Beginning today, Xbox is inviting select Xbox Live members to preview new features coming to Xbox One in a March system update and future system updates as they become available, asking them to provide valuable feedback before the updates are implemented worldwide. Selected participants will receive an Xbox Live message with a token to register. The next system update will begin rolling out next week to those who will preview the new features. Once registered, participants will be able to test the early features included in the update and provide feedback on a private forum and can opt out of future waves.
Like Marc Whitten announced last week, the updates coming in March will significantly improve the multiplayer and party experiences on Xbox One. We’re counting on our fans to share their input as we’re putting the final touches on the new features that we plan to deliver in early March.
Thanks for helping make Xbox One even better. We look forward to hearing your feedback on the system updates whether you are participating in the preview or not. We love to hear from you
