The second video brings up one major negative. The system has a PS4 Pro-style Boost Mode that cannot be turned off. While this can improve most games, it can also hinder titles to the point of unplayable. With PS4 you can simply turn this off when there are issues. So it will be best not to play titles that don't have a specific patch released for it.

It's pretty significantly better than the PS4 Pro, especially where 4k/VR is concerned.

A few things jump out to me.

Pricetag is likely going to be in the 5-600 range. MS is going to have to be very deliberate in how they market it and stick with it in the face of blowback considering the issues Sony had with the PS3 pricetag.

I understand MS's approach here for generationless console gaming, and actually think they may have finally gotten something right after the numerous missteps with XBone. But do console gamers really want a PC for the games they would want to play? And are PC gamers willing to "downgrade" to a console - even one as strong as a Scorpio - for $600 bucks?

For people who already have a PS4/Pro and/or a PC, without any "Scorpio" exclusives to open with, whats the reason (as a gamer) for grabbing this? The appeal of a 2nd console is generally to play the few games you *have* to play but your console doesn't have access to. Theres likely a $300 discrepancy between the Scorpio and its most likely 2nd console competitor in the Switch. Is 600 bucks + game cost worth it to most people who want to play Forza on a Scorpio over their current XBone S?

It's 4k games for under $1000. The market is just blooming for 4k, and it needs a consumer-friendly solution for gaming on it. This is honestly the first real one.

I doubt it's going to pull in people who already have a PS4 Pro, but I think where they stand to gain is people who have a PS4 but haven't upgraded yet.

It's gonna depend a bit on exactly how strong the CPU is, but ditching Jaguar for a real processor should be an absolutely massive performance gain.

Edit : Eh, apparently it's still based around Jaguar, which is disappointing.

Reading some more tho, the hardware based implementation of DX12 is fucking insane if it works like it should.

They're "evolved" Jaguar cores, whatever that means.

Honestly, there aren't that many games out this gen that it wouldn't simply be a case of MS having a blacklist behind-the-scenes to disable it for titles known to have issues with the mode, since any titles going forward will need to have Scorpio support anyways.

Reading some more into the technical details, the GPU command processor is some high quality tech. The anemic performance of the Jaguar has definitely been an issue with both consoles, and with as much as the command processor can theoretically reduce the overhead is a huge win.

That being said, I honestly can't see myself buying this thing if Microsoft stays with their current business model of exclusives also being released on PC, but goddamn if I'm not excited for what that kind of technology can bring in the future.

This is basically what has made the X1 a nope for me. Why would I want another system when I already have the other 2 only for exclusives and prefer most of my games on PC?

Since it seems kind of standard now with this gen for consoles to not be sold at a loss, at the end of the day it doesn't matter what platform one would play it on, just as long as they bought some version of it.

It took me like a week for sony to refund me when they accidentally charged me for games that should've been free under PSN+

I've been told I was SOL in so many words twice when trying to get refunded for being charged for Telltale episodes that I already owned through the season passes. I had to spend four hours on the phone with Sony customer support to get a refund when my girlfriend accidentally bought the PS3 version of Dragon Age Inquisition off the store instead of the PS4 version. My experiences with Sony customer support have been absolutely miserable, every time.

I got refunds for RE Revelations 2 and the new South Park game without too much of a hassle. I had to contact live chat twice each time. I've heard you have a much easier time if you call them though. Obviously not in your experience though.
