Didn't Sony mention something about cloud gaming or whatever in order to provide backwards compatibility?
To be fair, backwards compatibility was a fluke that would not be possible as each system continues to iterate (to this point). Each of the prior systems use unique architecture that would be almost impossible to fit into this console generation without inflating the cost or size of the device.
Look at how fast Sony stripped PS2 backwards compatibility out last generation - physical BC was gone after first gen hardware, software BC was gone after second gen hardware. Now try replicating Cell architecture or whatever the 360 was using. You're fucking nuts if you think you can do that.
EDIT: With Sony going x32, hopefully their architecture will remain stable enough that they will be able to provide BC from here on out.
EA and Ubisoft will always try to get away with anti used-game, always online DRM as long as they can keep putting it behind different disguises. There is too much money in the secondary market for them not to keep trying to siphon some out for themselves. Early on it was naked DRM like Ubisoft tried. Then it was stuff like Sim City 5, where the DRM was couched as a 'cloud feature.' Next it will be 'cloud enhanced features' which I fully expect to see in Watch_Dogs and every EA Sports title going forward, where registration is required to maintain your presence in a persistent world. Every game will try to monetize like an MMO. You have an account. Everything you do in your game is tied to that account. That account is non-transferrable.
Wow at the stock. I do feel more confident about the PS4 after seeing the oNE. But I guess we need to see games first....
I would hope PS4 allows you to play your retail PS2 discs since they already have a functional software emulator on PS3....that they reserved for 'PS2 Classics' purchases only.
Also, Nelson stream starting soon
