Actually, the first-sale doctrine says you can do whatever you want with it once you purchase it, including selling it. This is an attempt to circumvent that by basically turning everything into licensed software through DRM. It's bullshit, and they know that, which is why they are doing this code for every game because they know they don't have a legal course to prevent the secondary-market.
Honestly, it really is a circumvention of the rights of a consumer.
I dont get it then. Up till this point gamestop has lived off used games for the most part, you can not mean that it has been illegal but allowed to go on. MS is aiming to change the rules now, I am willing to bet we will see some type of law suite from used game shops.
edit: your just about saying "because MS said so" right?
Yeah I agree it's bullshit. Quite frankly if they wanted to do-away with the secondary market they would start distributing games via digital download only or with very few physical copies floating around. Then they could create a new secondary market completely under their control by allowing trades across accounts. It seems like they're moving towards the latter in the short-run and towards the former in the long-run. Gamestop will be outta business in 5 years anyway with these trends (and they know it which is why they buy and sell apple products, cell phone plans, and beatz now).
My whole point was two-fold: 1) they game cannot be "yours" entirely because you cannot copy it and 2) they are lying to you by telling you it's yours because of #1.
Edit: Beaten :<
all i'm picking up in this thread is a bunch of "hardcore gamers" that have no use for TV, sports, movies, streaming or any other alternate forms of entertainment and that none of you were going to buy the thing anyway.
i'm satisfied with what i saw in the 1 hour period and will wait for more at E3. I'm guessing most of you were on the PS side of the 360 vs PS3 console wars and are still salty with how much your console got shit on in the last 30 months.
my niggas
I can do all those things on my TV, I don't need a console to do it. I want to play video games, that's why I buy a video game console. I own a 360, I have never owned a PS3. I wanted the next xbox until I saw all the rumors of always-online, kinect required, no used games, focus on multi-media living room device and less focus on games. This reveal confirmed every single rumor, and made me not want to have ANYTHING to do with the xbox one, ever.
Can this console last 6-7 years on its specs? I really feel like it's going the OUYA route.
I don't see the big deal about the second hand market going away. Even the point regarding the cost doesn't work. I mean I can't exactly sell my copy of Windows Vista that I no longer use can I? (Ignoring the fact no one in their right mind would buy it these days). Games are software and it's quite normal for software to require a license. But I can see why used game buyers would hate it. No one wants to spend more money than they are used to.
For the last 30 months? What are you talking about? The PS3 and Xbox 360 are neck and neck at the moment and they have been for awhile. I don't have a Xbox 360, But I have access to one in my living room (roommate's) and my PS3 isn't working actually, I BARELY even played with the PS3. Sony is trying to screw me into buying a PS3 from them because their firmware update screwed up my current one.
Sony is blatantly ripping me off, but Microsoft is raping their entire customer base with their next console with no lubricant.
I have yet to see anyone defend the XO without trying to shit all over the PS4 or Sony in general. Hows this for a challenge: Defend the XO and explain why you think its a good console without using the words Sony or Playstation in your arguement.
