It's only been a few days since Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One and offered us our first glimpse of the next generation of Xbox. Already UK retailer GameStop is reporting a huge amount of interest from customers.
Despite the confusion regarding used games and always-on connections, it seems that an overwhelming number of people want updates about the Xbox One and the availability of the console. GameStop reports that a quarter of a million people have already registered their interest in the console, opting to sign up for the retailer's 'First to Know' notification service. MCV cites GameStop president Tony Bartel as saying 250,000 people signed up for updates on the console in just two days.
Meanwhile, other UK retailers already have the console up for pre-order despite the fact that Microsoft hasn't offered any specifics on a release date or pricing beyond stating that the console would be out this year. Both GameStop and Blockbuster have the Xbox One up for pre-order, and customers looking to secure a unit console will have to put down a £20 deposit. Presumably, they will be notified of the release date when it is made known.
The Xbox One packs 8 GB of RAM, an 8-Core CPU from AMD, a 500 GB hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, HDMI in and out ports, USB 3.0, 802.11n wireless, as well as a brand new version of the Kinect sensor. The new Kinect model will ship with every Xbox One unit sold, so we're assuming that will drive the price up somewhat. We'll keep you posted on that one.

Bunch of wankers.
Like with the PS4 list a few months back, most of those are probably from employees signing people up during transactions; anyone that has a rewards account and goes up to a register gets put on regardless of what they're buying. I'd be shocked if even half the people on that list actually asked to be on there.
Independent Creator Programhttp://gematsu.com/2013/05/xbox-one-...reator-programMicrosoft will have an “independent creator program” for Xbox One, Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Bushiness president Don Mattrick told Kotaku.
“We’re going to have an independent creator program,” Mattrick said. “We’re going to sponsor it. We’re going to give people tools. We’re going to give more information.”
Last week, Microsoft Redmond Game Studios general manager Matt Booty said Xbox One would not support self-publishing for independent developers. And while Mattrick didn’t get into self-publishing, and declined to share specifics on Xbox One’s indie creator program, he did acknowledge the importance of such a system.
“That is something we think—I think—is important,” he said of an indie program. “That’s how I started in the industry. There’s no way we’re going to build a box that doesn’t support that.”

I feel this is all last minute changes, due to the rage that the conference brought
I don't see how that program is any different than what they've done with the 360 and XNA, and choosing the creme of the crop to warrant funding and getting a $15 price tag slapped on in the end.

Am I being poe's lawed?Microsoft Confirms Xbox One’s Kinect Will Function Without Power Source, Can Never Be Turned Off
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed today that the new version of Kinect in the Xbox One console will use brand-new technology that will allow it to never be turned off as it does not require a power source.
Citing a breakthrough in energy capacity and storage technology, Ballmer confirmed today that the Kinect will always be functioning without it needing to be plugged into an outlet. Microsoft’s Don Mattrick explained the details further in an interview with the New York Times.
“One of the great things about the new Kinect is that it can never be turned off,” says Mattrick, “Once assembling is finished overseas, it will have already turned itself on and start transmitting data. Even while it’s inside the Xbox One packaging, it will still be functioning. It doesn’t even need to be hooked up to the Xbox One console as well. It’s one of the miracles of technology.”
“It’s extremely convenient for gamers,” continues Mattrick, “In today’s always-on world, having the Kinect always be available to a gamer makes life so much easier. Imagine coming home from a long day at work and having the Kinect already be waiting for you. You won’t need to go over and turn it on or even plug it in, it will always be working no matter where you place it. No need to look for a power outlet anymore.”
When asked about privacy concerns, Mattrick confirmed that despite the device not being able to be turned off, you can turn off its normal functionality with a command and it will be confirmed by a red light in front of the device. “There is a command you can say to the Kinect to have it stop performing its normal routine,” explains Mattrick, “Once you see the light in front of the device, you don’t need to worry about it taking pictures or videos or sending data. You’ll have peace of mind when you see that glowing red light.”
Mattrick also confirmed that you can prevent the Kinect from always listening to you if you put it in a soundproof room.
I feel like you must be.
Wow. I mean, I understand PR, but Jesus, this is like next-gen PR.
You can prevent it from listening to you by putting it in a sound proof room? The fuck?
Microsoft can't be serious can they like, what
The site is a fake site. I fell for it too, lol.
Blatant fake report from a no name site fishing for hits. C'mon son.
hey guys we invented an infinite energy source, let's just put it in the kinect
Xbox One has “CPU and storage equivalent of three consoles on the cloud”http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/28/xbox...ays-microsoft/Xbox One will support cloud technology and according to Xbox incubation and prototyping group manager Jeff Henshaw, the cloud will provide developers with the CPU and storage equivalent of three extra consoles.
Speaking with OXM, Henshaw said this will allow developers to create larger, persistent worlds for Xbox One users.
“We’re provisioning for developers for every physical Xbox One we build, we’re provisioning the CPU and storage equivalent of three Xbox Ones on the cloud,” he said. “We’re doing that flat out so that any game developer can assume that there’s roughly three times the resources immediately available to their game, so they can build bigger, persistent levels that are more inclusive for players.
“They can do that out of the gate.”
Furthermore, over on Stevivor, Xbox Australia spokesperson Adam Pollington told the site Xbox One would be “40 times greater than the Xbox 360 in terms of processing capabilities” when using the cloud.
“Xbox One is ten times more powerful than the Xbox 360, so we’re effectively 40 times greater than the Xbox 360 in terms of processing capabilities [using the cloud],” said Pollington. “If you look to the cloud as something that is no doubt going to evolve and grow over time, it really spells out that there’s no limit to where the processing power of Xbox One can go.
“I think that’s a very exciting proposition, not only for Australians, but anyone else who’s going to pick up the Xbox One console.”
Last week, EA EVP and CTO Rajat Taneja claimed next-gen Xbox One and PS4 were a generation ahead of high-end PCs in a LinkedIn post reported on widely.
A few in the industry disagreed with his stance last week after the post went live.

Blockbuster is Still Herehttp://www.vg247.com/2013/05/28/xbox...at-blockbusterXbox One doesn’t have a solid release date or a price yet, and still, a record number of pre-orders for the console have been reported by Blockbuster UK.
According to the retailer’s head of games, speaking with MCV, the firm is “delighted by the huge number” of pre-orders received so far.
“At Blockbuster, we have a fantastic array of adrenaline-fueled console games for sale or rental,” said James Morton. “With Sony releasing the PS4 in the near future, the next few months are going to be an exciting time for our staff and customers at Blockbuster and we can’t wait to hear more details from both Sony and Microsoft at the E3 Expo next month.”
