Thread related: I can't imagine Riot making a console release of league game, let alone have it exclusive to XO with all the $ there are to be had. That alone makes me call the list fake, but if it isn't...

It definitely doesn't make a lot of sense for several reasons if you understand Riot. I am not saying it won't happen but it would require Riot compromising on a lot of important issues.

Riot has to control access to the game, and with all the work they have done internally with player attitudes.
Riot makes money hand-over-fist with a free to play game. Would it be on the Xbox shop? Would you need Xbox Live gold? How would MS take their cut?
RTS just doesn't play well on a controller.

I'd imagine that number is close to, if not at zero. Both founders left the company shortly after MS acquired it, and the "restructuring" of Rare in 2010 swept out most of the remaining ones.

By the way can someone explain why they haven't figured out how to do multi-platform multiplayer yet? I'm pretty sure I did Portal 2 on PS3 with a PC friend. Why don't we see cross-platform multiplayer happen? Will we see them next gen?

MS won't share servers with PS3, they also make it a massive pain for the devs to do so. It's why Valve turned to the PS3 even after Gabe shit talked how bad the console was himself. Sony are actually open to allowing the PS3 to connect to seperate servers like Steam. There was a couple of instances of 360 games crossplaying with PC under GFWL but as you can expect, the 360 players got thoroughly destroyed so I think they just canned the idea.

Makes me curious if they'll allow cross-generation online play though. Eg, PS3 w/ PS4, 360 w/ Xbone.

I would assume Friends List would cause potential problems on the MS side due to different limits on the size, but otherwise, if the games have identical gameplay (one just with boosted graphics than the other), shouldn't be that infeasible, since Vita does it already with a small handful of PS3 titles.

They did say that about the XBone, yeah. Technically the PS4 could -probably- do it through some manipulation of Gaikai services, but I really doubt Sony would bend quite that far backwards to make it work.

Why are you so bad? This is a fucking FFXI forum. You played the game. You have a conversation about Xboxes and a screenshot of FFXI threads in your signature.

To provide a serious response nonetheless, there are multiple reasons for a lack of cross-platform multiplayer. Perhaps the most tremendous hurdles are the first party groups themselves, as they can and certainly do dictate how online titles are to operate on their platform. Microsoft extended an olive branch to Square Enix for FFXI, but did not repeat that when FFXIV was in development, for example, which is why FFXIV is not on that console—they don't like Silver users being able to play games online with anyone.

Usually, that's where the concept hits a wall, and it ends there. If you did want to release a title with cross-platform multiplayer and did somehow obtain permission to do so, however, you would then have to work with two very different architectures and ensure compatibility across not only platforms, but every iteration of said platform on each side (e.g., old Xbox 360s with their original chipsets and newer Xbox 360 S systems). It is incredibly complicated.

In short: it's not impossible, but it is extremely unlikely and usually impractical.
