Except he's got a point. Paying to be able to play online is lulzy and one of the biggest reasons I plan to stick to PSN+ over Xbox Live. At least I get content for my money, not a special right to play online that should be there to begin with.

Maybe $60 a year is too much, but I think the security (or lack of ever being hacked) and minimal service interruptions (longest outage has been a few days I think? and that was a few years ago) are worth a little money at least. Its like a club/lounge; from inside, you can always tell which one had a cover charge and which one didn't.

It matters because Microsoft is basically saying "You know that game that you paid 60 bucks for on your console you paid 300+ bucks for? Yeah you can't play what with your friends. Sorry. Well........if you give us MORE money you can."

No Microsoft isn't adding anything special with Xbox live gold. They are restricting what you can do with shit you already own when no other device does that period.

Are you guys confusing a few compromised accounts with the service being hacked? LIVE has never been hacked. There's never been a Sony-like hack where account information and CC info was stolen from the servers.

No, No, No, NO

Games are run off the developers servers, not MS Live servers. If im not mistaken, the LIVE servers are a middle man and you are paying them money to keep the middle man in the way.

Can you play games online on PS3/4 and wii and 3ds and ds and cellphones and tablets and toasters and alarm clocks and scales and surge protectors? Yes. Do they charge you? No. Why not? Because there is no need to charge a fee. Fuck off M$. Take your Lemmings off a cliff with your XB-fun.

Steam has never been hacked and steam has never been down for more than like 3 hours. GW2 has never been down more than like 3 hours, pso2 sometimes has like 7 hours maintenance every big content patch, my phone has never had an outage since I've had it for like 5+ years now, apple store has never been hacked, I've never seen the 3ds or wii multiplayer offline before either. I can play fucking emulators and roms on my PC P2P for free, i can play every multiplayer game that isn't a monthly MMO(a dying breed) for free on my PC. I can play every online game on every console for free except on xbox. I can play every online game on every smart phone, tablet, and laptop for free. Not sure where xbox live players get this notion where they're paying for anything. You are not, there's a reason multiplayer, netflix, hulu plus, web browser, etc is free on EVERYTHING ELSE as long as you are paying for internet and connectig via wii fi - even then you can go to fucking mc donalds, starbucks, or a library and get free internet.

I think people think when they're paying money, they're supposed to be getting something. You aren't, you're essentially paying for nothing with xbox live, you're paying money for a service that people can do for free on literally every other device on the planet. It needs to stop being defended and paid for so microsoft can stop being greedy fucks.

There is some debate about that. Virtual servers can be created in any amount. (10-20+ per server is conceivable) What needs to be asked is how many hardware servers they are adding. Also what percentage of those servers is designated for games and live, since most of their servers are shared with their other cloud services, office 365, hotmail(outlook) among other things.

edit: Before you bring up "omg it shows ads for games!" on steam, you can make it never go to that page on load up, and it's ads for GAMES showing you SALES and NEW RELEASES so i always enable it to be shown on start upincase its something I want.
